what would it take to hit 12s

so what do you guys think it would take to hit low 12s in the balt even high 11s. with out nitirous. im gussing you would need 60#injectors. cai, meth, 2.6-2.7 pulley or smaller, full exhaust, good tune, slicks, motormounts, torque dampner, shortthrow, upgraded clutch and flywheel, uped redline to 7k, gm belt, after cooler, better axles , but what else do you guys think would be needed to make it into the low 12s or high 11s, or is are blower just not capeble enough, how, so if this list or what ever im missing for blot on is not good enough, how about internals pistons cams and so fourth?? but if not a new turbo or blower. would love to see some input thanks?

Waylin22 Feb 13, 2007 11:02 PM

Well..im going to the track soon so i will let you know what i run with my set up :) I pray to the car gods that i get traction even though i don't have my drag radials yet :(

Beck Feb 13, 2007 11:02 PM

axles strong enough to hold all that power.

Waylin22 Feb 13, 2007 11:03 PM

^^ yeah. And at LEAST a spec stg 2+ or higher clutch..my stock clutch is starting to say:bye:

Super_SS Feb 13, 2007 11:09 PM

stage 2,good tune, slicks, axles, exhaust and a good clutch and ull be in the 12's...
dont knw how the cobalt goes with those mods, but my neon had those mods on STOCK turbo
and ran a 12.897 on 19psi(dropped to 15 redline)

djt81185 Feb 13, 2007 11:17 PM

dude u aint doing it on the stock blower unless u have DRAMATIC weight reduction...or a lot of NOS

eh, i dont know about that. No wheelhop can do wonders for your time. if you've got a 2.5/2.6 pulley, a nice tune, stage 2, intake, full exhaust (header/downpipe/cat back) clutch, radials and axles, i'd say its achievable.

I was thinking 11s...12s can be done on stock blower with traction

ah misunderstanding then :)

intense_SS Feb 13, 2007 11:26 PM

about $3000

montecarloman Feb 13, 2007 11:29 PM

Traction is the first thing, if you can’t hook wont matter how much power you got. If it’s a dedicated strip car find a spool, if it’s a driver get an lsd. Get axles strong enough to take the hit and wrinkle wall slicks for obvious reasons. Next pay attention to weight, rotational first, static second. The less it weights the less power you waste getting it to move. Then hit the engine department from the ground up light weight. 4340 steel, forged aluminum and titanium are your best expensive friends along with health boost. I'd go turbo specifically because it’s just more efficient than a roots blower and it will allow you to control the hp and tq by controlling the boost with an electronic waste gate relative to rpms or better what gear you are in.

stotte20 Feb 13, 2007 11:50 PM

well if you can get traction ofcource. i would hopefully think that the mods listed in the first post would at least get you into the mid 12s mabey even low. if not i would be a little upset

OniMirage Feb 13, 2007 11:55 PM

there are people that have already done it with mods equaling stage 2 and of course at least an intake mod but the thing that got them to that point was dr's. If I had the knowledge when I bought the car that came from learning the car i woulda invested in dr's from the get go.

stotte20 Feb 14, 2007 12:11 AM

i wish the people that have hit 12s would see this post and step in and tell us what all they have done. that would be a big help plus prove its been done. witch im sure it has.

ReMz Feb 14, 2007 12:12 AM

those mods will never let you see low 12's. you will most likely see high 12's.

a blower swap or turbo swap would be the only option to get into low 12's and 11's. The stock blower has it's limitations.

these cars have trouble getting out of the hole compared to an srt-4. of course dr's help tho (and are necessary to even touch 12's)

we know what they have..... and it's basically what you have listed. they see high 12's ;)

stotte20 Feb 14, 2007 12:18 AM

wow in a way that kinda sucks that are blower is such a bottleneck. where srt can hit 12s easy with stock turbo.

your missing the point though ... the car can hit 12's with the stock supercharger. going beyond that your gonna wanna get a beefier setup but that still doesn't mean get rid of the stock sc'er. most of the guys that have entered the 12's fell into hard times so they either dont have the car or are just not on like they used to be. literally within the first year the car was out people were getting to 12's.

stotte20 Feb 14, 2007 12:28 AM

no i understand what you are saying just its to bad that we cant get more out of are supercharger. see where im from thre is a lot of low 12second cars and a good amout in the 11s i just want to be able to run with them. a 13sec car around where i am isint that impresive.

im sure a lot of those guys have upgraded system where the car is far from stock. a whipple swap wouldn't set you back far and if your really anxious gm stage 3 supports a nos setup so i mean the ability is there just gotta pay to play i guess. I hear you though I would like to get low 12's with just a few bolt ons but most cars under 25k just wont do it on the cheap.

stotte20 Feb 14, 2007 01:04 AM

yea witch is very true. there is just somthing that makes me want to be able to go low 12s and still say im using the stock supercharger. i know it takes money to go fast. but i will be getting a lot more parts here in the coming months so i will see whre im at and where the aftermarket is. like say the whipple. or turbo

Red2.4SS/SC Feb 14, 2007 01:42 AM

both people that hit 12s were running 2.5 pulleys and slicks

Exactly. Porting the blower wouldn't hurt either. Traction is the main problem. Blown 4-banger traps 107-108 but only gets a 14.1 because of traction or actually lack there of.

1fstss Feb 14, 2007 05:44 AM

hell 12's arent that dificult i wouldnt think, i was trapping 105 on a stock pully and a little go-go juice :)

or the fact that he cant drive.....

stotte20 Feb 14, 2007 12:21 PM

thats carzy to trap that high and only be in the 14s
