anybody experimented with stiffer springs, or shimming the spring inside the lash adjuster, to try get it to keep up with the replacement valve spring pressure and / or cam change ?

what about changing the hole size in that control disc ?

combination of both ?

I disassembled every version, including the extended ones zzp sells with their regrind cams. They're all the same internally. I thought about opening the oil inlet hole, but that doesn't make it any stronger. The piston gets simply beat up with aggressive cams and springs. I could give it a shot though.

when you start doing those things you risk over pumping the lash adjuster and holding the valves off seat why reinvent the wheel when there is a solution

Ah, so our adjuster design simply fails with excessive pressure, loosing the trapped oil inside. (Is that than instant total failure? as I can imagine that they will shed some oil over time, so they slowly collapse a bit after f.i. a cam install)

And to make them any stronger, the internal piston surface should be increased. (more force for a certain oil pressure.)

ps; you don't need a vice to bleed these. Simply insert a paperclip wire to press the internal valve and you can bleed with your fingers...

lol i tried that paperclip method and nothing happened except the paperclip bent, is there a trick to it?

It's tricky. You gotta have it perfectly straight to work right. Usually easier to use a real small allen wrench

I know how to bleed then with a pick lol. I was indicating how easily they bleed down when in use.

I looked at a couple different lifters last night. Enlarging the oil feed holes is not an option.

Okay this definately makes sense now.

You may want to descibe the necessity of the machining to install the solids
do you mean to machine into the head where they sit some to make them work?

with solid lifters, then it should be safe to run stiffer valvesprings correct?

i'd be quite interested in running some solids, not only to protect my motor but obviously to make some real power to make the cams and springs more worth it.

you dont machine the head you have to machine each solid lash adjuster to each cam lobe to get the clearance needed and you alos have to have a cam ground for solid lash adjusters

you should be able to get your cams reground but your best bet is to get a set of blanks and get them ground for solids

I gotcha, I've never been Inside Their facility, although I did drop off an application *fingers crossed

Familiar with rhs (racing head service)? They are local to me too.

Sounds like me getting my Balt this late after production is a good thing, since it took you guys all these years to pioneer the way of the lsj.

Took me couple reads but I got it....great information in here. Appreciate the knowledge guys. So with proper lash adjusters and following work, what kinds of gains can one expect from a cam upgrade or for comparison sake lets say a custom cam ground with same specs as like a zzp cam

I dont believe anybody is on solids yet, although japeatrs thread I was reading said he would be running them on the exhaust side. But idk if that's happening yet.

a solid cam is going to have a different lobe compared to a hydraulic cam its like comparing oranges and meatloaf to one another

oh ok. But can you get the same duration and lift as a zzp stage whatever cam but would yield XX more hp? So your best guess ~50-70whp gain =)?? I guess what im wondering, theoretically can this process yield huge gains for ecotecs on cams?

Any guess would be exactly that; a guess. It should be a substantial difference though.
