if you car is factory Le5 you can take your Le5 and make it a 2.1 or a 2.7 or a 2.3 but you have to stay with your factory head because because the pcm controls the vvt in your engine by not using the vvt I cant tell you if it will run correctly or not due to the pcm freaking out

wow some awesome info in this thread. i am currently a turbo lsj running a basically stock motor after blowing the cylnder walls out of my built one. but heres what im thinking i have an lsj head, crank, and rods from my old motor and think it would be awesome to do a hybrid build in the mean time. its going to to be turbod so what block should i start looking to get for this build? i have a zzp trans and spec clutch so im not looking to have to change trannys or clutches. i wanna use my lsj head, lsj crank, and lsj clutch so whats the best block to use?

Trying to figure this out. In the process of building a delta hybrid. 06 2.4 LE5 bottom and 06 L61 2.2 head.
Question on the reluctor rings. From what I've gathered all 02-06 L61's use the 7x reluctor and the LE5 being gen2 has the 58x reluctor.
Are the delta L61 different and might have the 58x reluctor. How would I be able to tell and what am I looking for to identify each ring?
We are planning on getting the crank trigger if the rings are different between the motors but find it easier if I can use the stock ring.

be careful with what L61 engines you buy.. the older (2005 and earlier) ecotecs found in j-bodies have a 6+1 trigger pattern. this will not work with the delta PCM.
also, the older L61 engines.. the reluctor ring is CAST into the counterweight on the end of the crankshaft. There is no removing it without putting the crank on a lathe and lathing it down.

Yes. All the L61 I keep reading about have the crank ring welded in the crank. Non removable. The gen2 motors have removable crank ring and are all 58x, but I've read the LE5 and LSJ have different size rings and not exactly the same. So a spacer is needed swapping those blocks.

2.2 longblock/LSJ Externals
Back to the original question - I have an LSJ 06 that has had the typical ring land breakage. I have honed the damage out of the cylinders, but they are about .002" over (3.388). Can I take a 2.2L long block (available and cheap) and swap all the LSJ externals onto it? I am thinking this would have too high a compression ratio for the SC. I read a thread about adding a SC to a 2.2L car, no mention of changing pistons or cams. Anyone give a short answer on this?

Dependin on wat 2.2 u get.
U will need the newer l61
Pull the crank out and reclock the reluctor wheel and slap ur lsj head on and now u have a 2.2 lsj just be carfull they arnt very strong.

A 2.7 stroker TVS sounds so tempting...perhaps my next build
current purebred LSJ swapped 04 Cavalier here. Timing the trigger wheel to be exact isn't easy but not too bad. Also a thing to note is the crank pulleys are different between the engines. An LSJ cp is flat on the front so the trigger wheel fits nicely. The LE5 and L61 cp's have bumps on the 3 arms that reach out so you have to compensate with washers or something. The good thing is you can just swap pulleys, just keep in mind the L61 only has 5 ribs vs the LE5/LSJ 6 rib pulley (L61 requires you go cut off a rib when using the LSJ belt if you don't swap the cp out).
I cant wait to see what this engine can do tuned with my mods. Jbody by sight, Cobalt by flight! lol
