WVU_SS goes turbo
#51
Cause everyone loves progress pics!
Got everything plumbed in. Got the BOV back on. Getting sensors back in place. Then all that I'll have left is to drop the tank. It appears a maf sensor screw decided to end it's life and no longer thread, so I've gotta pick one of those up as well as a few other misc things.
Last odds and ends I'm working on with the turbo side of things are. I've got 3 threaded taps on the bottom of the intake manifold. I can't seem to find anything that goes in there, or do they just get closed off? I know one of them is for the bov, but I don't have a fitting for it, and I'm not sure what the other 2 are for?
I can't seem to find the crankcase breather tap. And I've got a misc. hose coming from under the coolant resovoir that I can't seem to locate either.

Thanks man. I got impatient waiting for his powdercoater to finish the manifold. 8 weeks was way too long for me to wait, so I took it uncoated. Figured I couldn't leave bare aluminum in the engine bay so I went with that. I'll be in the market for a new set of wheels here soon, and I'm considering coating them the same blue. I'd like to add that as an accent color throughout.
But on to last night. Got the fuel lines disconnected and everything prepped to drop the tank tonight. Me being the genius I am didn't think that there would be fuel in the fuel filter/lines and got a facefull of gas. That was a lovely feeling. Any tips on how you guys drop the tank? I don't feel that it'll balance too well on just my jack. I'd love to get some insight from y'all.

Welp more crappy news. Picked up a Carquest replacement from advance auto. No go. Fuel pump is permanently fixed to the lines in the canister. Wayyyy too different. Looks like that one's going back and I'll be getting an ACDelco from Amazon. The MU1971 is on prime. I know either the 1971, or the 1672 (not on prime) are the (2) that the LSJ came with. Any pros or cons with either settup?

Meh, I've already got the one from the 07 ordered. It should be here today actually. Found it for a good price without the level sensor, which I'm going to swap over tonight. Right now, I think the plan may be to throw the stock pump on, with the rewire and return and see how far that gets me. On stock internals and head, I don't plan on pushing it too hard, so I'd assume the pump won't be my weak link yet. Then when the time comes, I'll drop the tank again, and swap in the AEM pump. I don't feel like butchering another canister right now lol.
On an off note, I was in your neck of the woods yesterday black. Spent the day in the city. Flew into LaGuardia, then spent some time in Manhattan, and ended up in the financial district before heading back out. You close to the city?

used to work in manhattan until last monday (east 119th & 3rd ave)
now I"m in secaucus NJ.
damn wish I knew would have rolled through to say whats up. I visit customer in the city at least once a week.
and stock bottom end and head you're good for 450whp all day as long as you keep the tune fairly conservative.

I'm in town a lot (I come in once a month. I'll be back last week of June it looks like again). I've currently got 3 projects going on there, so I'll hit you up next time I'm in. I just wrapped up a project on 85th & 3rd so I was real close to where you were. I'm not sure how you dealt with all the traffic and stuff. It took me close to 2 hours to get from Wall St. to LaGuardia. It was absolutely insane.
To start I'm just running the wastegate with no boost controller with the 1.1Bar spring in it. I figure that'll put me close to where I was at on TVS if not slightly over. Once I get that tuned up well, I'll crank the boost up and hit the dyno to get me real close to 450.

It sucks. I got out of school just under 2.5 years ago. I finally got really settled into my job, and house. Got myself a daily, and decided it was finally time to really enjoy the balt. And now I can't as I've got so much on my plate. I just want to get it done quick so I can enjoy it as much as possible before winter rolls around and it sits.

Yessir, that's what I was thinking as well. If everything goes smooth tonight, I'll fire her up. Then off to my welder to fix an issue with the flanges between the DP and exhaust tomorrow and then I'll be tuning. A bit bummed it didn't come together sooner, as there's a dyno day I wanted to head to tomorrow.
I work for a mechanical engineering firm as an engineer in training (need 4 years of experience and pass a test to be a licensed mech. E.). We do the mechanical, electrical and plumbing on resteraunts. What about you? And is it easier for you to get to NJ from NY rather than the city?

and yeah I live upstate a bit (newburgh) so not having to go over any bridges and not going into manhattan save me quite a bit of time over dealing with escaping manhattan

Ahhh ok. I'd hate having to go to the city every day. I used to fly into newark and take the train in, but that takes just as long.
15 more minutes for me, then home to make dinner, install the canister/tank and pray everything works out nice and pretty. I hope to have a video up of a success.
