I do appreciate the advice, but I am going with 80# with my TVS setup. I don't plan to port or swap cams, don't plan to go heavier springs or rev higher than ~7200rpm, don't plan to build the bottom end, and I'd rather get away without a return style fuel system.
I'm targeting 280-320 whp, so ideally the TVS with a ~2.9" pulley will get me there with some cooling mods, headers, catless downpine, exhaust, CAI, 80#, and E-tune. I feel like this is a pretty sane goal.
My intention is to also tune on 93 so I can swap back and forth if the need arises. I did buy a MPIV2 and have been playing around with the HPTuners software, and doing a lot of reading/video watching, and I'll be working with a local-ish tuner (James Rakes) for both tunes. If I can, I'll just tune back to make the 80# work. If my IDC is sitting too high, I will buy some 120#'s and sell off the 80#, but I'd really rather not because I imagine a 93 tune with 120# could be tough (idle issues), hence why I want to make 80# work.

Again, let's revisit the ultimate goal here. This engine will be pulled for a DF Goblin Kit Car. Basically a 1600 pound, street-legal, adult-sized go-kart. A 300whp LSJ will do really well in that kind of setup. There are some other considerations when I do build the kit, like I will no longer be using the CAI. Instead, it will a short ram intake. Exhaust set up will also be shorter. I don't expect those two things to cause any major changes, but it should be slightly less restricted, or so I would think.

Make sure you take MAF readings into consideration when designing your short ram intake.

My mistake for over simplifying. The Goblin kit does include a pipe for the intake that has a MAF sensor housing, so there will still be a sensor. Here is a link to what the short ram looks like on a LSJ build, if you're interested.

so are you using that pipe, or are you putting the filter on the TB?

If I am understanding correctly he will be using the MAF tube and his setup will look like that in the picture.

I come here to start gathering info for my Goblin's engine build and you've already got a solid thread going tycoonbob.

I've also been wondering about the LS4 on a Goblin. I wonder if the sensitivity can be adjusted somehow.

So I do have a LS4, but I'm not using it yet. Obviously I don't have my Goblin built (or ordered), but one piece of advice I have for you is get learn HP Tuner. Not necessarily saying learn 100% to tune yourself, but get familiar with things. I picked up a MPVI2 Pro and a wideband sensor/gauge, and have been logging and learning what I'm looking at. In fact, right now at this very moment...I have VCM Editor open and playing around with values for idle airflow on the stock TB. I too fear the LS4 TB won't be great on the Goblin, because of the power and lightweight...but I'm definitely going to give it a go. I bought mine used for $60, so it's worth it just to try it out.

FYI, there is a Goblin Owners Group on FB I would recommend joining, as well as the forums at df kit car's website. If interested, I'm @deviantgoblin on IG, and have been sharing a bit about my Cobalt so far, and will continue with the Goblin when that time comes (this fall, I hope!).

Good luck on your build!
