04 classic 2.2L61head on a 2009 cobalt2.2.block?
 

I need some guidance crankshaft wise. Not sure if the cranks are interchangeable or would i have to? I have 2004 chevy classic dd with a 2.2l L61 .i also have a wrecked (from the rear)2009 cobalt . the engine in the classic recently broke a timing guide and the block has over 211k with a bad ring. So i was thinking im sure the head will bolt up but will the reluctor wheels be the same ? Did they change?

reluctor wheel changed for the 2007 model year, so you cant use a 2009 crank in a 2004 car

Well if i use the whole block. Can i run an external ruluctor wheel?

you could, however you could probably buy a complete early l61 for the price of making the reluctor wheel kit.

Well thats true but in my case and budget wise i already have the block and from what ive been reading only thing to stop it from running is the reluctor ring cause i think the L61 is 7x and the newer ones are 24xor 58x ., i think? And the bracket doesnt look to bad to make, just need the external trigger wheel .

the early l61 is 7x, newer is 58x. you could get a reluctor wheel and make a bracket for the sensor, just make sure the bracket is adjustable in some way so you can fine tune the angle. you need to make sure its bang because you cant fine tune the trigger location in the ecm like you would on a stand alone system.
