08 Cobalt VVT swap

I have an 08 Cobalt that I unknowingly swapped an 09 VVT into now I have a cam correlation code. Not sure if I can make it work, any feedback would be very helpful. The engine has its own harness still attached.

i have gone the opposite way (2011 hhr stock had an LAP, swapped in a 2008 L61) and using the wiring harness and ecm that goes with the engine, it worked without issue. as long as you are running the LAP wiring harness and ecm it should be fine.

have you got the car running yet? what is the code number your getting?

It is running but sometimes it takes three or four times to start it. It already fried the original ecm so I got a boneyard ecm and had it reprogrammed and it is still doing the same thing. I think it is a P0016. I wonder if I had to I could do a head swap. I am not sure if the bottom end is compatable. I looked up the head gasket and it is different.

first thing i would have done is a crank angle sensor relearn, also known as a CAS learn. you need a scan tool that has that function, i think hp tuners can also do that as well.

basicly the code means that either the crank/cam angle correlation is out of spec, typically meaning stretched timing chain or damages components. HOWEVER, this is a learned function and anytime you do anything with a timing component you need to do a cas learn. you also have to have it done when replacing an ecm/pcm, or when you have had a module reflashed by gm. i would start by doing this first.

I will look into that thanks for the insight.
