2005 Cobalt LS no start

Okay so this thing is making me want to drive it off a cliff.

But on to the problems. It wont start. Looked it up and changed out the whole plugs, ICM, and the part that the ICM sits in. Nope didnt work. Same problem.

My sister drove it to school just fine one morning and no CEL or anything that may have seemed like a problem came up. But she left school and it just keeps "turning".

also in the video you see that the RPM is going up a tad. So something is going on.

^video of problem stated. The engine "turns" but nothing happens. Chevy stealership said from the diagnostic that the "engine is getting no compression, chain might have broken". So I removed the valve cover and the chain is still intact. So this being a interference motor, even with the chain in good condition could it have skipped teeth and hit a valve?

When we crank it I put my hand on the engine and can feel it ticking, but this is my sisters car so IDK what it felt like before this. But it feels like everything is turning inside.

Any help would be good.

thanks
-Wes

How many miles? Go rent a compression tester from autozone. Do all 4 cyls. It's simple to use.

Maybe a fuel pump? Especially if you didn't have the recall done

Okay. Just tested all 4 cylinder and none of then have compression. So I'm guessing that means a valve is bent

I'm just gonna skip all that headache and replace the engine. Idk what all I have to do with this car to do that. All I have is a 96 jeep GC and it only has one computer in it.

Would I be able to switch a GEN II ecotech in it?

Are you talking about the LAP engine? Not with your stock computer. Those have VVT tables and the 2005 can't be tuned with HPT. You could buy all the electronics to swap but with the cost of doing it you may as well swap in a turbo. Safe bet is to buy a simple replacement.

It's kinda weird to me that they are all without compression but I wasn't there when the motor failed.

Well that's a bummer.

Yep. If you're ditching the motor anyway pull the head off to make sure it's bent valves.
