buy 2.4 intake manifold or a K&N intake

it cost about the same and it adds about the same hp, which one does everyone suggest

sidewidnerbiker 07-25-2008 03:54 AM

Both!!!!!:guns:

Whitty 07-25-2008 10:25 AM

get either of the 2 and follow up with the other when you can afford it you will be happier with both :P

K&N = waste of money. i'd suggest a jdm cai, but they're out of stock at the moment.. www.advancedjdmparts.com or check ebay for one. or the classifieds on here. if you're going short-ram you'll want a ram-air hood or some kind of custom ram-air setup so you dont suck in hot engine air.

Buy The Intake Manifold. Then The K&N Drp In.it sounds loud ill try to get a vid up u wont believe i have a drop in sounds louder than a sri or cai

Not trying to start nothing but dont let opinion get in the way of quality. the K&N intake is just as sturdy as any other intake and sometimes CAI isn't always an option ... there is absolutely nothing wrong with that intake. not even the cost.

stenguyen1 07-25-2008 01:05 PM

or buy the intake manifold on gmpartdirect.com
go to the catalog section n the 2.4 manifold is like 130.

here is the link http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/catalog/frameset.cfm

Whitty 07-25-2008 01:12 PM

you need all the gaskets that go with it tho. not sure if that comes with them or not.

i didnt say it was poor quality. it is overpriced, as you can get an injen for less that can be cai or sri.. or even a jdm for $50 which can be cai or sri as well. the reason its a waste of money is it cannot be converted to cai, and without anything to feed it cooler air, you'll just be sucking in hot engine air. you'll have a loud intake, but hardly any hp gains because the air is hotter than even the stock intake. its not just about air flow, its air temp too.

K&N - $285ish after looking at about 3 different sites; SRI only. If you want cold air out of this you have to either buy a ram-air hood which is like $500-600, or you can build your own with a scoop and a drill.

If you WANT a short ram, i'd recommend getting one that can be converted to cai as well.
Injen - $240-270 cai; can also be sri
JDM - $50 cai; can also be sri

there's a lot more to it than that... there's a good post about it from facelesskhaos, do a search.

stenguyen1 07-25-2008 02:11 PM

yea i did and big-dave bought the manifold on that site n he said everything came wit it. adapter and gasket and etc.

teh_punk 07-25-2008 03:58 PM

except the adapter plate and the brake booster hose and you have to bore out the map sensor plug if you have 07+...

stenguyen1 07-25-2008 04:11 PM

didn't i just say adapter came wit it? n u can buy a hose at advance or auto zone like facelesskhoas did. than ur really just saving alot of money n u can bore out the map sensor urself like facelsskhoas said.

teh_punk 07-25-2008 04:21 PM

if you're talking about from CED yes, it does, but not from gmpd...which is the link you posted.

stenguyen1 07-25-2008 04:28 PM

big-dave bought his off of gmpd n he said the adaptor n gasket came with it. so im just puttin my info on wat he said. n cant u just buy the adapter on gmpd too. im not sayin ur wrong or anything just a little thing to save some money here and there for an upgraded manifold like facelesskhoas did.

teh_punk 07-25-2008 04:37 PM

go for it, but why would the adapter come with the 2.4 mani on gmpd? its not an aftermarket site, its a GM part. they are assuming that when you buy the 2.4 mani, its going on a 2.4, and no adapter is needed. the adapter is fabricated by CED, i doubt gmpd would have it.

I have to agree
C.E.D. created that adapter plate so that 2.2 owners could do the swap without throwing any C.E.L. (Before we had tuning for the 2.2's)

You can bolt on the 2.2 TB to the 2.4 intake manifold without that plate but tuning will then be required.
Otherwise you get a C.E.L. and LIMP mode

jbenso4 07-25-2008 04:52 PM

i got Injen CAI first...loved it......tghen got the manifold....loved it even more.....get from Crate Engine depot everything is included and it goes right on....easiest project i have done with the car yet and you will be satisfied

I just got an email back from gmpd... confirmed the 2.4 mani from gmpd does not come with the adapter, nor do they mention any gaskets. Here's the email:

Actually you are incorrect. The adapter has nothing to do with limp mode or CEL's or tuning. The 2.2 TB does not have the same bolt pattern as the 2.4's so the adapter plate is made so you can mount the TB to the 2.4 manifold without issues.
