ECM swap 05-06 to 07-08

It appears I have a few issues on the internals of my engine. I am considering dropping the whole assembly and get a few things done while I am at it. The only thing that bothers me working on cars is trying to get a wrench in cramped up space inside the engine bay.

One of the things I am considering doing is swapping harness and ECM from 07-08 Cobalt so that I can have some options for tuning support. Has anyone done this? Would it be worth it or should I just go all out and go standalone? I've put enough work into the car that I am at the point that I want to do it right even if it is more expensive and takes more time.

I myself was at the same point before I wrecked my 2.2. Worth it IMO if it works, but I never did the research. Sub'd for answers.

If you are considering standalone, I would contact foximus and trevor

I bug Foximus more than I should already but I will see if he can provide any insight. I've asked some questions on his build thread and have been following it.

I do know that the 07-08 L61 is quiet a bit different than 05-06. the 07-08 have two camshaft actuator sensors next to the cylinder one coil pack.

07 and 08 or just 08? I thought 07 was same engine configuration but I honestly don't know for sure.

The vvt actuator solenoids are only on 09-10 LAP, 07-10 LNF and 06-08 LE5, the gen2 l61 only adds an intake cam position sensor.

If you go that route, be sure you clock the target wheel the same as the ecu set up you are using (E67 , E37,Etc). Steve
