Engine and trany questions?

Ok so my question might already have been posted and answered but I am a lil confused on it. So I have a 2008 cobalt lt my previous 07 I bought brand new and I have heard that only 09 and up have vvt and LSD trans's but the dealer tag on the new 07 said it had both these so does my 08? I know the LSD is can be added and what about the vvt does it make any difference? O and my mottor in the 08 is that xfe bs which really dosent seem any different to me the 08 is actually faster than my 07 was. One more question can I convert to a ss sc tranny? I know there better than the piece of **** Saab trany I have!

2.4 has VVT. 2.2 didn't get VVT until 2009 when the 2.2 L61 was replaced by the 2.2 LAP

First of all, the M35 tranny in the SS is a Saab unit, not the stock LS/LT F23 tranny, which is a Getrag unit. There is no point in switching because honestly there is not much difference. No, VVT can not be added. Its built into the head of the motor, you would have to switch heads, which is not really possible because sensors and ECU's are different. Your 08 has the exact same motor your 07 had so its not going to be faster. All the different 2.2 configurations all perform relatively similar anyway.

Also you can get the F23 trans with LSD. CED has them for sale so Im sure some cars had the option. Therefore SS's were not the ONLY cobalts with LSD.

Cool thanks for answering my question kind sir and does the vvt make any difference? And ok so just add the LSD to my trany? One other thing if I am going to go turbo should I motor swap or just build mine?

You cant really add LSD, but there is a part you can put in the trans that acts similar. I forgot who makes it, but I know a few people have gotten it for drag racing. I would search the forum for that. Like I said the VVT is not going to make that much difference in performance at all. If your building a motor Id rather have the 07-08 L61 over the LAP. Building yours would ultimately be easier. Cobalts dont really like motor swaps.

From the pic in my sig? No I was way lower than that, more than an inch, but I just liked the pic the best. In the sig pic I still had all the locking collars in and some threads left. I was at 24in from the fender to the ground in the front and 24.25 in the rear as the lowest I went. Tucking tire on 17's

My 2008 has LSD, says so on the papers, and if you don't believe that I'll take a video of a nice burn out to back it up.

Anyone know the option code for it on the build sheet? I'd love to know if mine has it (I don't think so though)

The part he is talking about is the Quaife LSD which should just swap out your factory open diff. Pretty pricey though
