iat

whats too hot of an iat. today while in traffic i saw a 160

~Mike~ May 2, 2009 02:32 AM

Could be wrong here, but I thought 160 was waaaaay high. You should be down around the 100's or 120's i do believe.

baggelis May 2, 2009 08:30 AM

160????!!! if not mistaken as the other guy said thats extremely high unless you re talking about coolant temp my iat is 1-2 degrees warmer than the temp outside but i have a cai

xxxxsh4d0wxxxx May 2, 2009 10:32 AM

Where the hell are you guys getting this temperature from..?

originaladrian May 2, 2009 10:33 AM

huh? u do kno what IAT is right?

160???

baggelis May 2, 2009 10:38 AM

i dont understand what hes talking about

~Mike~ May 2, 2009 10:41 AM

IAT= Intake Air Temperature. Normally, not an issue for 2.2's. It's a big problem with us s/c'd guys tho. If ur IAT's are that high, ur in big trouble. If your coolant is that warm, no big considering you should have a 180* thermostat

baggelis May 2, 2009 10:43 AM

sc's are pulling timing at 140 right?

bikeboyben14 May 2, 2009 10:43 AM

no its my iat i got a k&n sri and i have an interceptor gauge, and i was just sitting there in traffic and i scrolled through and seen it but once i take off it goes back down but still it was high while being still. my coolant was around 198

baggelis May 2, 2009 10:45 AM

160 is way too high im guessing somethings wrong

dude....198? that's way high too. you need to get urself a 160* thermostat to keep those temps down. What kind of traffic are you sitting in?

Even 140 is a bit on the high side for us. IAT2's shouldn't really ever go over 120, 110 is about as high as you wanna see them go

baggelis May 2, 2009 10:47 AM

198 coolant temp is regular for 2.2s our thermostat is set higher mine runs from 190-206

Darkmanx May 2, 2009 10:48 AM

why do you guys insist on answering questions if you dont have a clue. AIT in traffic dont matter, what is the difference between ait1 and ait2 at WOT thats when it matters , of course your damn iat is gonna rise if your not moving.

baggelis May 2, 2009 10:48 AM

not up to 160 though....

bikeboyben14 May 2, 2009 10:48 AM

i was sitting around with a/c on too but i think im gonna switch to a real cold air kit

VeNoM0713 May 2, 2009 10:48 AM

hmm.. when i go to the track, my IAT2's hit 150+.. this is on a bolt on ss/sc. good thing im going turbo lol.. but i even have the raw CAI and it still gets that high.

what are you talking about man please stop. with all the cooling mods in the world your ait2 will be about 20-30 degrees over ambient temps and when at wot it will climb . outside temp in fl is 90 degrees now my ait2 is at 120 at WOT at the top of 3rd its about 150 where are you getting your info from

baggelis May 2, 2009 10:55 AM

my buddy has an ss/sc with a 2.9 header downpipe h/e dual pass and the raw intake and his iat goes oer 90 degrees only when he stops

Darkmanx May 2, 2009 11:00 AM

once again , you cant give a number for ait2 and say its not suppose to go above that number unless its stupid high like when your pump is dead etc. You have to tell the difference between the outside temp which is ait and iat2 which is the intake temp then we would be able to tell you if its too high or not.

baggelis May 2, 2009 11:06 AM

i understand that but the temp over where he is are not that high thats why i said 160 is too high
plus its only a 2.2 or 2.4 so i dont think it should get that high when outside temps are no more than 80

ssyellow May 2, 2009 11:11 AM

I was at 130 when in traffic then went to 60 when I was driving...I would say no biggie

bikeboyben14 May 2, 2009 11:57 AM

so with my car being N/A should i monitor iat or iat2

nah... its more important on force induction cars especially superchargers because they create alot of heat and loose power.
