IonNinja 07-15-2008 04:46 PM

nice, I'm terrified of setting my timing

already done it once but...you trust the zip ties?

also when adjusting mine I didn't see any tick marks for TDC on the crank...is yours the same?

Jn2 07-15-2008 04:48 PM

good good man, i would of never thought of using zipties, and im mexican...lmao...def going to see if that works, might get cams now if i dont need that tool,i dont feel like paying 250 to a candian company, than having to pay shipping backt o canada....lol vids please

copson20 07-15-2008 04:57 PM

the tool is a good idea if your doing it by yourself. but i did have someone hold the gear so that when i pulled out the cam, the gear didn't drop into the timing cover

bluechevycobaltss 07-15-2008 05:02 PM

yeah if i do this i wont be by myself, i will have help, want to see vid, if its nice,i might invest in some stg 1...i dont wanna rev that high anyway, 7k is fine with me, and even then i wouldnt go that high just use it as a buffer for when im at the track so i dont bounce

copson20 07-15-2008 05:14 PM

I hear yea!! I don't rev that high cause the lobe on the cam operates 2800-6800 so i redline at 6900. but vince wants me to dyno it so that he can see where my base power starts and stops .

20 bucks gets you a nice tripod!

Looks good anyway, though. :twothumbs

omg....*shakes head in shame* you get an A+ for creativity....and a F for common sense...cant wait to see your post on changing cylinder sleeves without the tool....you gonna use a c-clamp?

jlmd 07-15-2008 05:33 PM

how bad are the cabin vibes?

i've got tranny mount inserts and didnt find the vibes bad at all..how do these compare?

i got the tranny mounts too, i dont even feel the vibs no more, they dont phase me :) its normal to me

elecblue06 07-15-2008 05:38 PM

hmm you better have good videos lol

MadBrad 07-15-2008 06:12 PM

Nice to talk about cams, instead of intakes, headers, and exhaust.

copson20 07-15-2008 11:28 PM

thanks for the compliment for creativity but considering that my grandfather owns a engine shop i don't think replacing the cylinder sleeves would be a problem lol. but c- clamps would be interesting

well you can diffidently feel the engine moving when the cams turn and having the mounts myself is pretty shaky with the air conditioning on

oh and you think zip ties is being creative ask Matt the one who had installed the cams first, what the dealer used to do his cam install. For a company that warranties work you think that they would use proper tools lol. i stole the dealers idea!

elecblue06 07-15-2008 11:30 PM

any vids?

CobaltLs_14 07-15-2008 11:34 PM

Matt and I are going to get videos together on comparisons. cause matt and myself have all the same modds. Except that i have a custom exhaust, with "soon to be "clear images downpipe and 4-1 header and he has megan racing, w/ZZP header and downpipe.

But i should have vids soon.

massivematt 07-16-2008 12:30 AM

Hey zip ties are a good idea especially after seeing a mechanic at a GM dealership do it. What else more could you want besides holding the chain against the cam gears?

burzumaske20 07-16-2008 12:43 AM

that is pretty cool, also a clever idea to use the zip ties, that is something I will have to do when I get the cams.
