Megasquirt

Anybody ever run a megasquirt setup on a L61? Thinking about it.... looking for tips or advice.

I haven't ran it on a L61 I'm planning on using it on a LSJ in the future and have used it on the VG33 in my Z31. My biggest piece of advice is read the Megasquirt forums and plan out what exactly you want, batch fire/sequential, wasted spark/sequential spark and what sensors you want to use. Those things will dictate a lot of how your wiring will be done.

Then you need to decided what features you want. If you don't need a lot Megasquirt 2 or Microsquirt might be good for you but I'd personally recommend Megasquirt 3 with Megasquirt Extra. Megasquirt 3 with Extra will allow for 16x16 VE tables, full sequential spark and fuel as well as launch control, boost control, nitrous/meth control and is typically easier to install and setup than the older ones. However it does cost more.

i put a megasquirt 2 on an ecotec back in 2007. it was an early l61 (actually from a cavalier). i used an early gm dis4 coils and module. its really as simple as you can get with a megasquirt.

Yeah don't need boost control or launch control, N20 or anything. I'm planing on using it for autocross so I just want something I can tune. Would switching it an older cavalier or ion throttle body be needed or do they have systems that can run a fly by wire tb? I'm very early in the idea of using it so....

no very few aftermarket computers have the ability to control drive by wire. a cavalier throttle body will bolt right up, your just going to have to sort out a throttle cable and pedal.

all you need for what you want to do is a megasquirt 2. the 3 adds a lot of cool features, however with the crank trigger and lack of cam sensor in the l61 you cant use half of them (coil on plug, sequential injection).

Cool, thanks. Yeah I figured the gas pedal will be the hardest part lol. Again, thank you for the input.

He could use standard MS3, the MS3 Extra package adds all the fun stuff. The standard package is batch fire etc. With the advantages of better electronics and 16x16 tables. However I'd agree MS2 is all he needs, I'd still recommend 3 over it if the extra $100 isn't a big deal.
