what kind of tuning would need to be done to the trans halfcent and how much would it cost if you know off hand.

It needs a very simple change to shift pressures on acceleration. During a normal acceleration, the trans will try to provide a smooth shift. With 100 more horsepower that the program isn't expecting, it will cause the clutch packs to slip during the upshifts, wearing them out.
Problem is that simple change is locked inside a computer that we can't get to.

They're not going to work on our ECM unless they see that there is an interest!
I can't stress this enough, if you want tuning, make it known.

The extra torque along with the B&M will cause the TCM to throw a code and a MIL. It will also probably turn off your traction control and turn off all shift pressure modulation.

Not to shoot you down or anything, but we have been at HPT's throat ever since they started supporting the LSJ's. They have told us that their production schedule is full for this year, and it doesn't include the L61. But every little bit of nagging from a new voice can't hurt.

i actually just looked at the supported car list on it and it support 05-07 it said but it also said that it would support the 05 cavalier since it can support the 2.2 ecotec cavalier in automatic can it support the 2.2 cobalt since they are essentially the same engine.

You need to look closer. The list says 2.0 and 2.4 engines. Not 2.2's.
And while the engine in the Cavalier is the same, the computer is not. And the software is used to tune the computers, not the engines.

I remember when the 03 neon came with the ngc, they didn't get tuning forever. It's basically the same thing here, deal with the piggybacks or mechanical tuning but there's but there's so much that we can't do for lack of a good standalone. Hell the base neons didn't get anything until around 05-06 when aem released a standalone unit for 2500. Other than that all we had was megasquirt and the casual piggyback controllers.
Even though the ecotec is a more widely modified platform, I could still see us 2.2 guys having to wait 2-3 years as well to get what we need.
it does make sense. I mean there's just not that many people out there right now modding base cobalts. Everyone's into the ss/sc and ss(which have tuning). While it looks like there's alot of people who need real tuning for the 2.2, I only see maybe 5 or 6 people on here really complaing about it. And how many of them do you think might be window shopping or not buy it right away. The money's not there so the r+d isn't there.

by the way what does pcm stand for and what is it(not to change the subject of the forum just curious)
i just got an email back from the guy at HPtuners he said he believes there are other cars that they support that have the same pcm as the 2.2 cobalt he said he is waiting on some info and someone to read the pcm before he can say yes or no and he has some people that he is waiting to here back from but this is all for the 2007 nothing earlier unless it turns out the pcm is the same for them also.

pcm=powertrain control module. And we do have some tuning for that, just not full control. It's the auto tcm(transmission control module) we don't have anything for...

The 2005-06 L61 cars had the model E61a ECM computer in it. HPT does not support that unit at all.
The 2007 L61 now uses the model E37 computer, which HPT already had support for in a different vehicle. In order to use that software with the Cobalt, they need update the code specifically for the Cobalt, but they haven't done that yet.
Here is the simple answer. There is currently no support from HPT on any L61 Cobalt. They will probably support the 2007's soon, but we have no date. They may never support the 2005-06 models, and that just sucks for us.
