Need HELP w/ GM intake install

OK, I pieced together almost the entire thing BEFORE putting it into my car. So all I have to do is pull out the stock tubing, airbox, and valve cover, right?

But what the hell is this thing (tube) connected to the airbox on the right? There's no mention of that in the instructions. And where do I put it after I drop the new airbox in?

You sir, I'm afraid to tell you, are screwed.

That is the secondary air injection supply line, which was added to late production 2006 model L61 cars. And your right, the GMPP intake doesn't provide for it. I'm afraid you won't be able to use your intake.

Well, you could use the intake, but then you will need to somehow filter the air entering that air pump line once you disconnect it.

At present, K&N is the only aftermarket intake manufacturer I know of that provides for SAI.

huh? i thought the gm intake works with all 2.2 and 2.4 from 05-07?

They want $300 to install it! I don't think that's going to happen.

I asked how many hours they would charge for? He said 3+ hrs.

Screw it man, buy a injen intake. I think those will fit your car fine. Not sure, may want to ask the x-perts on 2.2 or 2.4 w.e u got.

INJEN was my 1st choice. Except now I know that won't work either.

K&N is the only option for you if you really want an intake. And yes, they seem to produce the highest number of CEL's. It seems to be a result of the oiled filter element contaminating the MAF. You could use the K&N system with a dry filter, and just replace the element regularly like everybody else.

As for your GMPP intake, call Tom and see what he can take back. If not, list it in the Classifieds.

OR, if you want to get fancy, try fabricating an attach point onto the new intake for the SAI line. The current system taps to filtered air. If you attached it to the side of the new intake air box, that would be unfiltered, but I don't think that would be bad. Better then just letting it hang. If you attached it to the intake pipe, be sure it is upstream of the MAF.

Man, I can't believe this. This was supposed to be my 1st performance modification ever, and this $hit happens.

This kinda discourages me from doing anything at all. Especially when that's a GM part MADE specifically for this car. And since K&N throws CELs & would void my warranty, why even bother at all?

I always thought about getting their exhaust. But now I have to 2nd-guess that too. Is there anything else I'm missing before I even START to think about that? I'm so bummed out right now...

Drill a hole, screw in a nipple and get some silicone tubing. Should only cost you about $10 in parts at pepboys.

drill a big hole, then tap it, then screw a pipe fitting into it, then connect the tube to that

GM will void warranty if something comes up and they find that. I'm not taking the risk. If it didn't matter, I would try to modify it. Believe me.

Okay, breathe, relax, GM is not going to void your warranty. If you have an aftermarket intake and it throws a CEL, that doesn't void your warranty either. You'll be fine.

Now, about the exhaust you want to do. This is EXACTLY the reason for belonging to a forum like this.

What do you want to do? I can't tell from your post. You want to put on an aftermarket exhaust of some kind? Ok, here's what you can do:

You can not change your manifold. It also is part of the SAI system.

You need to be careful about the downpipe. The SAI cars have a weird cat on them, and recently people have posted that they have 2!

However, any cat back system should be fine! This would replace the resonator and muffler and of course the piping.

Next idea:

You have the GMPP intake. Hold on to it for a while.
Get an aftermarket header, and then remove the SAI system completely!

Nobody I know has done that yet, but the idea is sound. It is believed that removing the system completely would result in a CEL, but nobody has tried it yet. However, despite the CEL, you would have a perfectly operational engine with no hazards at all.

BTW, none of these changes would be legal in California because of their stupid ass CARB law, but it would be fine everywhere else. Perfectly legal.

I'm considering trying out the GMPP intake w/ LSJ manifold on my SAI equipped 2.2 Cobalt. If I do it I will use the GMPP Intake as well as an LSJ Manifold and downpipe so that the entire SAI system will essentially be deleted from the car. If the SAI setup is designed to improve emissions would replacing the O2 sensor so a non SAI O2 sensor prevent a CEL?
