Ok to use a cold air intake in the winter?

Hello, I just got my GM performance cold air intake and wanted to know is it ok to have this installed in the winter when the temps get to 20, 30c below zero? I heard from a friend that the car well take longer to warm up.
I'm I going to have to put my stock air box back in when winter rolls around?

Thanks!

I never had a problem.

Just don't drive through lakes.

XM15 08-12-2008 06:10 PM

You'll be fine. The GM intake is only a Short Ram intake anyways, not a CAI.

Besides, the colder the air, the more power you have on tap. :D

Beware, it may freeze your internals lol. J/P! It's perfectly fine to have a CAI, SRI, or stock intake year round

Yeah, it'll be fine. In fact colder air is much better for cars with forced induction... i.e. Turbocharged, and supercharged cars. :)

colder air is better for any car, not just f/i.

Sure is fine, I have a Injen on the SS/SC and we are in Minnesota :)

You will be ok, I have a CAI and i have had it for 2 years now and I love it, no problems, dont go over any deep puddles though.

The GMPP intake removes the top of the old airbox. If it actually seals to the hood (kinda does) it pulls air from the exact same spot as the stock air box. Therefore, if you could with the stock intake, you can with the new intake.

scss 08-12-2008 08:13 PM

how much is the gm intake?

The GMPP is not a CAI. It also has the filter and intake pipe at generally the same height as the stock air box. You should not be driving in water thats 2 feet deep anyway (the interior). This is not a Chevy 2500 pickup.

The GM intake is actually more CAI than SRI. It pulls from the stock location which is not in the engine compartment like other intakes, its behind the headlight. It gets cold air through their and from below as well.

the K&N on the other hand pulls directly from the engine bay.

I dunno man. Cold air intake + super cold intake air = ahhhh!

Its nolt like the engine will be sucking in twice the amount of air. And the GMPP sucks air in from the same location anyway.

My guess would be about 20% more at 0F than at 80F.

Should take less than 1 hour for the full install (taking your time).

The only side effect I got from driving in the winter with a CAI was more power.

Yep. Colder more dense air.

Only perk. Too bad most tracks are closed in winter.

btw- Pic at top of this page looks like a SRI not a CAI.
