Ok to use a cold air intake in the winter?
Hello, I just got my GM performance cold air intake and wanted to know is it ok to have this installed in the winter when the temps get to 20, 30c below zero? I heard from a friend that the car well take longer to warm up.
I'm I going to have to put my stock air box back in when winter rolls around? Thanks! |
I never had a problem.
Just don't drive through lakes. |
You'll be fine. The GM intake is only a Short Ram intake anyways, not a CAI.
Besides, the colder the air, the more power you have on tap. :D |
Beware, it may freeze your internals lol. J/P! It's perfectly fine to have a CAI, SRI, or stock intake year round

Yeah, it'll be fine. In fact colder air is much better for cars with forced induction... i.e. Turbocharged, and supercharged cars. :)

Sure is fine, I have a Injen on the SS/SC and we are in Minnesota :)

Ok good to know,:) Thanks for the quick reply!

You will be ok, I have a CAI and i have had it for 2 years now and I love it, no problems, dont go over any deep puddles though.

The GMPP intake removes the top of the old airbox. If it actually seals to the hood (kinda does) it pulls air from the exact same spot as the stock air box. Therefore, if you could with the stock intake, you can with the new intake.

how much is the gm intake?

My guess would be about 20% more at 0F than at 80F. Should take less than 1 hour for the full install (taking your time). |

Its nolt like the engine will be sucking in twice the amount of air. And the GMPP sucks air in from the same location anyway.

The only side effect I got from driving in the winter with a CAI was more power.

Only perk. Too bad most tracks are closed in winter. btw- Pic at top of this page looks like a SRI not a CAI. |
