2nd week in a row. Car was making good power last week, probably but 50 laps on it and it did this. System wAs lean due to bad sensor, got all sensors and plugs changed . Car was making good power again, 2 green flag laps, same thing. #3 cylinder. Never over 7k. Same exact thing, two weeks in a row. Anybody got any ideas??

Take the intake manifold off and check for debris. Happened to me and i found chunks of piston ring.

yep, im gonna check it out, probably check it out with bore scope first, compression test and leak down. scared as to what we may find

that happened to me when i dropped a valve lol

would it run good with a new plug? this one will run perfect, make god power, but pushing it a little harder on the track is when it happens. I'm figuring its a piece of valve or piece of rings

rntbuck 03-07-2017 09:16 AM

Not sure how bad, and I haven't looked in the bore scope, but compared to the others, the top of that piston appears kinda tatteredhttps://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cob...6d69e997ac.jpgGood one

looks like something bounced around in there

kinda what I'm thinking as well. the million dollar question is... what now?!? especially with racing season on us. heck i could have long since had a new motor built and in had i known.. now I'm not sure what we need to do...

user 72239 03-07-2017 10:58 AM

take an hour, tear the head off to confirm whats broken.

my guess is a shortblock. who knows where that metal is now. unless you want to just replace the pistons.

im kinda figuring the same. i mean, the idea of fixing it how it sets is out of the question imo. especially as hard as we push these. even a half azz repair is still gonna be semi expensive and a fairly large tear down. at least thats what I'm thinking anyhow

rntbuck 03-07-2017 11:22 AM

heck, I'm guessing its still in there.. considering lat 2 times its popped the plug

user 72239 03-07-2017 11:38 AM

ah yeah. its probably still on top of the piston lol.

runs great until you lean on it. this week it only took 2 laps... FML

user 72239 03-07-2017 11:42 AM

I swear Ecotec 2.2s are impossible to kill.

rntbuck 03-07-2017 11:47 AM

hahahaha... well it only took me 2 nights... and both were practice... haven't even made a single race lap yet... geez

Slowbalt2000 03-07-2017 12:05 PM

Mine did the same thing man. New plug, ran great, then closed the gap again. At the very least you need a new piston and rings.

Slowbalt2000 03-07-2017 12:05 PM

Takes 30 mins to pull the head

true. i guess that would be the tell tale of what happened for sure. I'm new to these, so still learning. my guess is its dropped a valve

user 72239 03-07-2017 12:24 PM

yeah its pretty simple to pull the head

lucky for you, 2.2L's are cheap and abundant.

also agreed, but if its trash I'm probably gonna have a race builder go ahead and build me a good one

Get a hold of Mongo or Mr.B if you want a race engine built. Mr.B has some ideas on NA engine builds

looks like you could have had a vacuum leak or a faulty injector

No worries.... out with the old, in with the new! https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cob...b761754299.png
