Hey, I'm just wondering. If i was to get the stock SS/SC springs, would it be worth it?

I wouldn't have the money to go for new rims and tires. So I'm wondering if it is worth it.

B/C shouldn't the new springs make wear on my tires faster?

you are only going to be dropping a little bit so it shouldnt really harm your tires, but it will make from a better ride from what ive heard

ppl say its a little bit stiffer than the stock ss springs..and new springs DO NOT wear ur tires out if u get a alighnment after u get ur springs installed...

the one rear one came off on the first bump i hit but its the mechanics fault its being fixed. However, be prepared it cost $250 to have them installed and you want to get an allignment done too

 

then new question. worth it to do it your self and just go in for the alignment?

 

depends if you have a spring compressor lol....I dunno if you need one but I know it can be a pain without it.. atleast thats what my dad said (a mechanic)

 

well i would trust his word. but with the extra, (weight)? down onto the tires, even if aligned they shouldn't wear any quicker.

 

Ok, so I did this a month ago. I picked up a set of SS/SC springs for my LS and installed them in my driveway. It drops it about 1.25" and makes WAY stiffer and handle better. You DO need a set of spring compressors for the front - you can get them at autozone for a 43$ fully refundable deposit. I used two t stands, a floor jack, and some air tools and for someone who had never done it before it only took like 3 hours with alot of breaks. It is worth it and is easy enough to do on your own. If you want pics go to the how to section and look at the install spring guide - tells you exactly what needs to be done. PM if you have any questions if you want!!

 

Try to do it yourself? Wheres reston at in VA? I had one of the guys in VA Beach do mine for me. It really isnt that hard at all just time consuming. It took us a little under 3 hours to do the front and back. And alignments arnt that expensive at all. I got mine done for $50.

Nevermind you waaay up there, lol. Theres a good how-to on here that explains it pretty good. After seeing it done in person, its really not that hard. Just undo a 3 or 4 bolts at each wheel and change the the spring and do everything backwards, soo easy. The spring compressors looked really easy to mess with to. It just takes time, thats all. Ya do it yourself... I did mine and its really simple and very easy to do. Just rent a spring compressor like NWAE cobalt said just be very careful that the spring doesnt come off there cause it could take your head off. Yes there is that much force on them. But once done get you an alignment and you will be all set. The only thing you really need to worry about its if you get below the 2" mark of a drop then its hard on your struts and they will go out pretty quick.

I have the SS/SC springs on my LT and they helped alot for handling. Way better than the stockers. I will try to take some pics on Tuesday and load em up. I still have the stock tires and rims, for now!!

I just went to sears and bought the compressors, I just like buying tools though, $55 bucks. Did you already buy SS springs?

 

no not yet. I think i will be getting some soon b/c of what everyone told me. And im just going to rent the compressors. Some guy who is coming to the meet might have some, so i think I'm going to PM him, save on shipping.

 

yeah I have some I just took off friday and I'm going to the meet, and I have the compressors too
