Thinking about getting a Pedal Commander... anyone got one?
I always like to ask people about their experience with a product before buying.
I worry about the sport + mode in traffic, but my worries maybe unfounded. A very sensitive/ aggressive setting could cause a car wreck in some situations.
Either way I am tired of the, which I assume is, pedal response lag.
That pause for the throttle to react equals lost time, and ability to pull when you need to.
Pretty much ruining the ability of the motor is because it sits there for a third of a sec or so before the TB settles into the position that reflects the gas pedal position.
I could be wrong, but it feels that way.
I know someone had a net posting about tuning there car so the throttle was more responsive... that is great and acknowledges the programming being the most likely culprit blocking the response time... but what do you do when you want to have the pedal adjusted for either economy or for ability for better response? I am hoping this gadget fills this need. I don't want to tune the car for hundreds of dollars and then when I want to scroll it back, get it back to a tuner. Or at the very least hook up a laptop to mess with the tune. This thing uses bluetooth and has a pad to input how much or little response you want. No, I don't sell these things. I don't have stock in the company. I just want one, but don't want it to be something the 2.2 Ecotec doesn't like.

Honestly, the throttle plate isn't that slow.
Had never heard of that device and after looking it up, all it looks like it does is shorten what the ECU sees as off throttle to full throttle. So unless you have a very slow ankle or an extremely sensitive ankle I'd save my money.
Details on your car? Manual/auto, mods, etc.

These throttle plates are to me not equal in response to a car with a throttle cable.
I know a Cobalt owner changed the TB response while tuning. It got rid of the lag I speak of.
If you have a manual Cobalt, maybe they are programmed different.
My brother has the sedan version, I have the coupe. His seems more responsive. To me that says the sedan gas different throttle response parameters.
It's the same motor, same automatic transmission. He does have the SAI though. But that only injects air thru the cat or something on start up from what I hear. I have since tried to remedy this with an Injen Cai, I ported on the intake side of the TB to try match porting it and a cat back 2.25 inch. Much better than it was stock...but the throttle program imo is not optimum. The higher volume air and raised intake velocity via removing the humps which air used to have to transition into the TB is gone.
I guess I might have to try one and if it doesn't work right, refund...
Do you have your car tuned for the Injen CAI or your TB porting? What you are experiencing could have to do with your engine bogging from improper fueling instead of the throttle body. I've never heard of the TB lagging on these cars and even back when mine had stock TB it was very fast response. When you are just sitting in neutral and hit the pedal really quick can you hear the gush of air as the TB opens or does your engine respond accordingly?
Have you tried a different throttle body? Springs could be weak or it could be "sticky for some reason. I'm not sure what all parameters if any you can adjust for the TB gain which adjusts how much power to send to the TB actuator to overcome the spring force. If for some reason those could be set too weak it can cause your TB to lag behind the commanded TB position. Hard to speculate much though because I don't know how the stock ECU calibrates to each TB as even two identical TB off the shelf will be slightly different. I've heard of TB learn process so I am guessing the ECU makes fine adjustments automatically.
I've also never heard of anyone porting these TBs. I would guess that wouldn't be a good idea as they have specific designed geometry to control the airflow.

My car bogged more before the CAI, catback and TB mod.
It is not tuned as these little amount of mods.
When you press the gas, you hear the motor spool up and the velocity doesn't change at all until about a fraction of a second later is the bogging I speak of.
It seems like when you press the gas, the injectors react immediately but the throttle plate doesn't open to reflect the pedal position immediately.
On my wife's old Sunfire, the TB was instantly in whatever position the pedal was in thanks to the cable actuated throttle.
On the Cobalt, the computer controls the throttle by reading values sent by the pedal. This fraction of a second for the computer to figure out whats going on and make the TB adjust is what I speak of.
I can make the pedal move fast to what I want, but if the computer is programmed to react to the input of the pedal in a way I dislike... the Pedal Commander seems to be the best way for me to fix it.
There was someone that had the tuning adjusted to remove this "lag" I speak of. I think they had a 2007 and used HP Tuners.
Not sure why only the 07 can use HP Tuners. I could be wrong, its been a while...
I don't want to do HP tuners for this modification because this pedal device allows me to adjust it to whatever I want on the fly.

I think it's pretty important that the throttle is doing exactly what the ECU is expecting it to do. It sounds like your pedal device can interfere with this control/feedback process and I would recommend against that. The throttle body is not slow because it is drive by wire. Drive by wire systems are very responsive if the ECU gain is adjusted to properly actuate the throttle blade against the spring force. I think you have something else going on here rather than a "lag" from your ECU.
As for the TB.
I did the porting.
I match ported the intake side to reduce the friction from the transition between the intake tube and the TB.
It made a large positive difference. Huge....
As for flow design, some people swap the 2.4 TB and manifold.
I looked at the manifold, the small hole opens up to a huge area where the air then gets divided up 4 ways.
Not stating the obvious... just that TB seems anemic is why I say that.
Basically, the car seems to love the mod. I do too.
I sincerely doubt something has changed in a way to hurt the motor.
My wife's 2.2 Ecotec Sunfire has a TB that didn't have that weird shape con vexing or whatever you call it design.
I retained the design though, just made the transition a lot smoother.
AZ engine mod laws allow for this as long as you pass emissions and some other limitations. AKA make sure its legal in your state if you try this stuff...
