wanna build my 2.2 up for more boost!
Wiseco Pistons Eagle Rods Chevy Cobalt Ecotec 2.2L L61 - eBay (item 270620000869 end time Feb-05-11 13:08:53 PST)
I made them an offer for 700. I'm hoping they'll take it. My question for you guys is what else do I need? I'm going to get a cometic head gasket and arp headstuds for sure. What about the acl full engine bearing set it recommends to get? or am I better off getting the clevite main bearings and rod bearings? |
either or for the bearings..and sleeve it if ur gonna go high boost..ive seen way to many crack a sleeve and are left with nothing
|
You could contact zzp and get a build with a genII block.
|
id also do some valve springs if u havent done them already and clutch
|
I just want like 350 for now. Do I need sleeves for under 400 hp?

I have a spec stage 3 clutch I still need to put in. |
If your an 07 u already have gen II block, with a good tune your sleeves should be good
|
For the pistons should I keep the compression ratio stock or go with a lower compression? and bore size the same as stock or a little bigger? This is the first engine i've ever built so I wanna do it right the first time.
|
You want the 8.9 comp, less compression more boost. Stock size will be fine for turbo, less machining as well
|
stock bore 8.9:1 is what u want man...and good call bragdon about the gen 2 block

Did you guys do the engine work or have a shop do it? I'm kind of nervous to do all this myself but I don't wanna get raped on labor charges either.

How much did that run you?

im 19 and i did mine all myself and it was my first time doing a motor lol i dont have all that money laying around for labor...i suggest a lottttttt of reading up on how to properly do it and u will be good to go Just follow torque specs and directions PRECISELY and dont half ass it. Only thing i paid for was sleeve install, valve install, and haveing the crank and stuff done obviously because i dont have the tools to do it

I disagree stock compression is better. More boost is alright but I'd like to keep a driveable car with very little loss in torque. A low compression with a large turbo that is out of boost drives like crap there a dog down low. Not to mention, the stock compression will help decrease spool time.

Then you better have a real good tune, much safer with 8.9 TURBO pistons. The stock comp wiseco's aren't meant for boost. the 8.9's are specifically setup for boost
Kx yhou might be right but take into account we have displacement on our side this helps out. But drive a high compression big turbo and its a whole other animal. Adn how much lag does your turbo really see? I bet your not out of boost often. Its all personal preference but you need to truly understand the difference before you say one over the other. such as most tuners prefer it due to the ease of tuning, and it allows for a large safety threshold for knock. |
ive rode in a big turbo high(er) compression car and yes there is a difference i will give u that. My car has an s256et turbo so yes im out of boost quite often and my car doesnt bog down at all. But yes an big turbo car that wants to run boost runs 8.9:1 95% of the time thats the entire purpose of companys making these pistons are for forced induction.
There are other guys on here that have stock 10:1 but i personally wouldnt run those without meth and veryyyy good tune. When i get on my car though it is an animal and plants me in the seat pretty damn good on 25psi so i have all the torque i need for a 4 banger daily driver all while still getting good gas mileage and not so much different car from stock while out of boost. |
yeah with a gen II block you can run boost safely without sleeves. aluminum blocks ftw! The lnf has a gen II and can boost 27 psi easily.
