2.2 sc clutch reccomendations
Recently supercharged my cobalt and the clutch is starting to slip especially when shifting. Any recommendations on a good clutch option? Car makes 228 whp and 228 wtq. Looking at the Exedy Stage 2 clutch (https://zzperformance.com/ecotec/tra...rt-clutch.html ), the Ky stage 1 or 2 ( KY Clutch - Chevrolet Cobalt/HHR 2.2/2.4L F23 Trans Stage 1 - Drivetrain KY Clutch - Chevrolet Cobalt/HHR 2.2/2.4L F23 Trans Stage 2 - Drivetrain ) or finally the zzp 9.5 inch clutch kit (stage 1 https://zzperformance.com/ecotec/tra...lutch-kit.html ). All of these clutches would be paired with a fidanza flywheel. Also what is the best TOB available for the F23?
Don't currently plan on making any more power than it is now unless the motor was to let go which may eventually happen so I would like some headroom in the clutch choice. Thanks in advance. |
I run the KY stage 2 clutch and It holds the power fine and hasn't had any issues. Mine makes some noise on deceleration above 60MPH, I'm assuming it's because it's a puck clutch instead of full faced. Doesn't feel too different from stock.

oem flywheel, oem tob Had exedy, it was a good exercise experience. On the other hand, the clutch is good. Love how it hold. |

Done some research and a lot of people actually don't like the fidanza flywheel and have some quality issues, so I'll just go back with a oem replacement. While I have the transmission out of the car I am also thinking about swapping it for a better final drive as my cobalt is an XFE model with 3.63 FD. Locally I found a 3.84 out of a 08 cobalt for 250 and I am curious just how much difference it would make. Leaning towards a ky st1 or the exedy as far as the clutch goes. Went out this morning and got on it some and the rpm's just jumped 2k rpm instantly XD. Also, anyone have experience with this?

ive run aluminum flywheels, i have one in my ss/sc and had one in my l61 ecotec swapped 944. for a street car, a steel flywheel is far better. i ended up having to change out the fidenza on my due to a broken ring gear, but being its a car i beat on i didnt want a stock cast flywheel. i went with an exedy lightweight steel flywheel and i love it. idles lower and far smoother, helped with smooth clutch engagement too (running a spec stage 3+ clutch). i would recommend this flywheel.
the gear ratio change is small, but it will make a difference. if you want a night and day difference the hhr had a 4.17 final drive. |

Cobalt Clutch Line Fits F23 and F35 Trans My car is running high 200's and clutch feels almost if not like stock. Used to have the adjustable rod from zzp till I broke the master that was in, ran this with the exedy disk. It helped alot lol. |
