Headers, HP, and backpressure
Hi, I have an 09 2.2L N/A with Magnaflow 2.25in catback. I'm looking to get a header and catted dp, but I'm worried that I'll lose power by getting a header that has too large primaries and collector... The options I'm looking at all have between 1.5 and 1.75 inch primaries, and 2.5 to 3 inch collector. They include badmab and zzp. The badmab is good price and appears good quality. It's a 1.71in primaries to 3in collector.
My questions are: Will I be losing backpressure if I get the badmab? Is the 1.5in primaries to 2.5in collector the best option, as far as not losing backpressure? Does it even matter, as far as backpressure goes, since I have the 2.25in Magnaflow catback? And, if I got the Badmab header, should I get a 3" dp stepped to 2.5, or a straight 2.5 dp? Or does that even matter? lol
I believe that any aftermarket header and dp is a lot better than stock, and I may be asking this incorrectly about backpressure. Are the smaller headers a better choice for HP vs the larger ones with the 2.2?
Thanks

I ran the ZZP long tubes with the 3 inch downpipe when my car was naturally aspirated and it gained a good bit of performance. That was with 1.75 primaries and a 3 inch collector which would be the least back pressure you'd find with a header set up and it worked very well I think

The badmab will be fine. Stick with the 2.5" dp the 3" will be too large for an NA performance gain. The result of the badmab, 2.5" dp, and 2.25" magnaflow should be a pretty nice setup.

This. Also take into consideration future mods before buying. For instance, if you plan to supercharge in the future, buy something that would optimize that setup. It may not be the most optimal choice for NA but it will still give you some gains

I agree... If you wanna supercharge later on I would buy the longtubes IMO. but the bad-mab is a good setup.. there is no real performance gain on an NA with the longtubes but it sounds awesome IMO.. the shorty sounds great too.. Good Luck
