Lap?
What is the LAP?
|
The LAP is a 2.2 L — 2189 cc (133.5 in3) — version of the Ecotec, based on the Gen II block.
Bore and stroke are 86 mm (3.4 in) and 94.6 mm (3.7 in), the same as the 2.2 L L61. Compression ratio is 10.0:1. Major features that set it apart from the 2.2 L L61 are variable-valve-timing and other cylinder head improvements from the 2.4 L LE5. Used In: 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt 155 hp (116 kW) @ 6100 rpm 150 lb·ft (203 N·m) @ 4900 rpm 2009 Pontiac G5 155 hp (116 kW) @ 6100 rpm 150 lb·ft (203 N·m) @ 4900 rpm Info source: wikipedia  |

so, a gain of 7 hp, and a loss of 5 tq. Not very useful from a performance standpoint. however, i spose VVT gives it some more beathing options now, but now theres no cams for the 2.2 again! lol
|
vvt should improve gas mileage for stock, but a big deal with a boost app. you could run a cam-timer and have it open earlier for more power at the low end.
|
Yes, quite simply, the LAP is a 2.2L LE5. If you could put a 2.4 head onto an L61 youd what an LAP is.
The LAP and the LE5 share the same head and intake manifold, the LE5 has a lrger 65mm TB though, the LAP has the same ~60mm TB as the L61 |
Sweet first page in the first thread!!!!

Does the LE5 head flow more air than the LSJ head?

The 08 early 09 XFE engines were still the L61 but they were "XFE" because they had different final drive ratios, different tires, and a slight adjustment to air/fuel mix to give it a mpg improvement of maybe 1-3 more than the reg L61. But now that the L61 is being phased out in favor of the LAP, the XFE Engine will be the LAP with a different final drive ratio and different stock tires. |
nice the new balts are all gonna be quicker:)

The LAP makes 2 less lbs of torque and its peak isnt until 4900(4200 for L61) The one advantage the LAP has stock is that it has a broader flat torque curve, due to the VVT. An L61 with a 2.4 Manifold will likely make them same/more horspower than the LAP, And the LAP has no "larger" manifold to upgrade to as it already uses the LE5 manifold, and since its still a 2.2 its just as likely that it wont benefit anymore from the larger 65mm TB than the L61 does(the LAP and L61 both have the same 60mm TB) Id be very curious(am also slightly jealous) to see what an LAP will do with some LE5 cams in it. Maybe Ill trade up instead of a refi. |
im interested in how it does boost....cause i know the l61 is rated shit for peak horsepower....
