Broken fuel line

We have a 06 cobalt ss that we race on a dirt oval track. Wrecked it last weekend and think we broke the return line at the fuel pump. (it was a hard lick) Haven't had a chance to get a good look at it yet. The pump is about 3 months old. Most of the time when the engine is running its at 7000 rpm. Will it burn enough fuel to not cause a problem if we plug the return line under the hood? I know it's a long shot. If the cobalts weren't so electrically challenged I would just put in a fuel cell and universal fuel pump like my cavalier. I'm gonna have to change the pump huh?

There is no return line from under the hood. The pump feeds the filter, which sends fuel to the return on the pump and the engine. The pressure regulator is on the pump return. Any leak will allow the pump to go ***** out and pump fuel everywhere. Drop the tank and see what happened. You may be able to remove the damaged section and replace with rubber fuel hose.

Thanks Joe 1. I kinda figured we had to drop the tank for a closer look.

Update. Loose connection. When my son began checking the problem out one of the connections snapped in place. We had changed the fuel filter several weeks ago and evidently the hard hit separated a connection that was not fully connected.

Nice, glad it was something simple.

Those "quick connect" fittings can be a PITA at times.
