Coolant temperature
 

Hey guys, i have a chevrolet cobalt SS 2006 non turbo. i recently changed the radiotar fan because one of the blades was broken (did not work at all). Engine kept over heating 240 degrees farenheit . I have a brand new radiotar fan now. Temperature now shows me between 88 and 96 degrees celcius . Is this normal? . AND also ive felt a "burnt smell" kind of plastic buening smell that comes from the engine but im not sure if this is has to do with the engine, coolant or something else? PLEASE HELP ME. Comment .

Normal is 185 F give or take while driving... 96 C is around 200-205 F.. Which isn't that bad if you're in traffic .. But if its that high while driving, then something is not right... Are your fans working now?

You may want to trigger your fans too, by putting the A/C on high for a few seconds or by letting it idle for a while until temps go a bit over 200 and see if they are working properly...

Well while driving it goes around 88 and 90 celcius. And well i havent seen them running to be
Honest since i left the shop , in the shop cause the air is not to much the temperature stayed 95 celcius while the fan was running.

Have you tried changing the temperature thermostat? What I would do is flush the coolant system and replace the t-stat and see I that helps... Also make sure your oil isn't milky... Have you changed the oil?

I checked all that. No leaks ,
Hoses are fine. Everything seems fine. And yeah i will do the oil change soom this week. WHAT ABOUT THE burning smell guys? Kind of like plastic burning? i dont know wheres that coming from!

Check your coolant level....... If its low.. Then check your oil....

Will do! But again, have you ever had that smell coming from your car?

Yes.. But not from coolant.. Usually when a plastic bag in the middle of the road sticks to my downpipe..

Did it start smelling like this after you installed the radiator?

I changed the radiator fan not the radiator. And yes the smell had it before thats why im confused and i dont know if its from the coolant or what

Definitely change the oil man... I'm not trying to scare you or anything but your head gasket might be bad..

Is your car smoking at all?

Burning smell could be something electrical. Check your fan plugs to see if they shorted. Make sure your fans are actually working. Mine ran at 82C while driving and while idling the fans kicked in at about 105C.

having same problem checked fuses relays and connections did some looking found out 2.4 has a fan control resistor pn 15212798 located in fan shroud will be looking into tomarrow also setting p0480 code fan 1 control circuit but fans are working
