Few Quick Questions..

Hey guys,

Just a few quick questions here..

1) I'm an auto 2.4 with light mods.. There's guys around here for both HPTuners and Trifecta.. Both are similar prices.. Which would you go with and why?

2) I have an Injen intake.. It's got a K&N cone on it.. I used to run it as SRI, but then I went to CAI.. Which is better? I think I remember seeing that SRI is best for low-end and good on mid, but not high.. Then the CAI is best for mid and high, but not good for low.. True? I do alot of around-town driving, so would a SRI be better for my usage? I notice that when I punch the gas, there's a bit of a gap, and then it takes off.. Once it kicks in, it goes well, but there seems to be more of a lag with the CAI than I remembered with the SRI..

Thanks!

Bump.

Only looking for answer to question 1 now.. Swapped my CAI back to SRI and it's way better.. lol

So, HPT or Trifecta for auto 2.4 with mild mods?

huckernage 05-08-2010 07:58 PM

sri and triferta

_UnLiMiTeD_ 05-08-2010 08:02 PM

trifecta

averagewhiteboy 05-09-2010 08:18 AM

Fair enough. Now, why? Why Trifecta over HPT? Is there some type of main reasoning? I really only want to normal things like shift points, kick in fan at lower temp, etc..

iLLmaTic3s 05-09-2010 08:22 AM

CAI and HP tuners. trust me on this one. SRI=heat soak, less hp CAI more cold air to engine=more hp

trifecta tune..eh. HP tune will be specific to your car as really trifecta just sends you a tune of theres to work on your car. i dunno man, when I had my cobalt w/ mods on it and a real sick tune, it moved real well.

now my camaro moves a lot faster..lol.

See, I ran SRI first.. I liked it.. I went to CAI, and I initially liked the extra pull up top, but with me being auto, it'd always drop off, and the mid-range wasn't there.. The SRI is way more fun to drive with the auto.. If it was manual, I'd keep the CAI, but the SRI with the auto is way better..

So now, a debate!! lol

SRI to Manual to CAI to Auto. There will be no difference man. Get some balls and put the CAI back on. LOL. Get a HPtune on ur 2.4 and trust me, you will be happy. Any aftermarket intake is great. It removes the restrictive piping.

he warmer air from your engine compartment is OK for fuel economy, but because is has less oxygen molecules than a cold air charge, the fuel will be leaned out. This increases your fuel efficency, but decreases your horsepower. CAI FTW and HP tune..do it!

averagewhiteboy 05-09-2010 11:29 AM

It's not because I don't have balls.. haha I ran each for two years.. I'll take a tiny hp decrease to gain far better drive-ability.. My low and mid range response and acceleration is far better with the SRI.. Plus, I've got a K&N ultra-ram cone on it.. I'm not in this to have a billion hp car.. I'm in it to have a power-band I can use.. And I dodn't use high-end, so why boost it when I need low and mid? Also, it rains here 3/4 of the year.. Water-logged = fail.. haha

reason why im telling you to lean towards the CAI because a tune will open it up a lot. A tune will open up the MAF real nice and all other aspects of the cars parameters. Personally I would go CAI and get someone to hp tune you bro

averagewhiteboy 05-10-2010 03:44 PM

Now can I do the tune wit hthe SRI and then just add the piping back later if I choose to?

iLLmaTic3s 05-10-2010 05:08 PM

of course. but the gains with the tune w/ a sri is little.

averagewhiteboy 05-11-2010 09:44 AM

How much of a gain do you really think will happen with essentially just having an intake and exhaust? I did have a header/dp, but it was entirely too loud..

More so than hp gains, I'm looking for stuff like shift points and stuff.. You know, bring the aux fan temp down, adjust how it shifts, firm it up a tad, etc..

What all is recommended for my set-up..? Lightly modded 2.4 auto..

Also, if I add a header/dp later, will I need the tune to be adjusted or would I really only need a re-tune if I go boost later?

iLLmaTic3s 05-11-2010 10:13 AM

the tune will open the whole car up. these 2.4 cobalts react real well to a nice tune. the trifecta tune is a canned tune just to any 2.4...the hp tune is specific to your car, which is a lot better. when i had my car tuned..the thing was a animal for a na car with full bolt ons.

averagewhiteboy 05-11-2010 10:26 AM

Hmmmmm..

So really, I only have to get it re-tuned if I added boost? Aside from that, I'm good? I might mod more later when I get the funds after paying this card off..

What kinda stuff will it do?

iLLmaTic3s 05-11-2010 10:49 AM

there is a lot of explaining on what the tune will do to the ca. personally once we tuned the car..it was alot more fun to drive..i mite have a quick fly by vid when i had all bolt ons and a tune..let me look for u

That 1-2 shift is nice!

Now, my question is, upon firming up shift pressure for the shifts, does it really clunk when going into gear? Every once in awhile, my ECU acts up and tells my tranny to shift hard like that, and it really clunks when you go from P to a gear..

iLLmaTic3s 05-11-2010 11:32 AM

no clunk at ll. that is a issue with the MAP sensor. hard shiftin w/ the t/c light on. you can tune that out.

averagewhiteboy 05-11-2010 12:07 PM

Good. I have that hardcore. lol What is the MAP sensor?

mine was HPT tuned and i love it (4 speed auto)

i timed a 0-60mph in 6.4 sec the other day, and the tune was supposed to be on the milder side

iLLmaTic3s 05-11-2010 02:55 PM

i bough a new car and well stock its faster than the 2.4...lol

Zdeuce4 05-11-2010 03:09 PM

stop saying trifecta is a damn canned tune shit..

trifecta is just fine. if u dont have a reputable hpt tuner in ur area trifecta is the best option. prolly even if u do have a good tuner.

averagewhiteboy 05-11-2010 03:42 PM

So what would have messed my MAP up? It's not all the times, but it does happen.. Can I fix it without doing something through HPT? Although I will likely just get HPT anyway..

iLLmaTic3s 05-11-2010 04:32 PM

im not dissin trifecta. its good stuff if u dont have a good tuner around. but i personally rather use hp tuners. i dont even know y im still on this forum sometime. i moved on from this cobalt scene.

find someone in ur area and get hptuned..if not go with trifecta..
