Haha, MIKE you're killing me man! I've waited so long! Glad to hear everything is coming to a close shortly. I have to take my baby back to another dealer because mine said nothing is wrong with it.... bullshit, no other cobalts make that clicking noise near the front of the engine. And the other trannies arent as shitty as mine.
Anyways, good luck, and hope to see some large gains for the trouble

They're like the old Pontiac engines from the 60's. They may clatter and tick but they can kick ass too!

the reason why they tick is cuz of the alluminum expanding from the heat, so there is nothing to worry about.

i dont think this ticking is from expanding metal. its from the front of the engine underneath the fuel rail inside the head.

Yeah it's a pretty consistent, timed tick.

Looks like this thread has been hijacked (although a lifter discussion is related, I guess)...

A lot of the time on modern cars what you're hearing are the injectors "firing." These are basically electro-magnetic solenoids much like some door locks. As each one cycles in turn, they do click. The mention of it being under the fuel rail would lead me to believe it's injectors. Usually you don't hear all of the lifters unless something's wrong (like the top-end oiling passages are blocked, in which case you won't be hearing it for long ) Lifter noise is usually confined to one or two that have gotten weak over time, from infrequent oil changes, or over-reving. Lifters tend to "tick" like a clock. Injectors "click" (like words can convey a sound! ).
