K&N Panel Filter

has any body tried the panel filter for the 2.4 if so can they give me some feedback on it

marcwo 08-24-2006 06:38 PM

yea i have it. I like it. Its cheap and helps the engine breathe a lot better. I noticed a small increase in the sound and response. But nothing to really shake a stick at. Its just a more affordable alternative to the CAI's and SRI's.

i have it as well. it has helped w/ the milage and the price is decent.

i did an airbox mod with the round filter... my car literally sounds like a g35 and the throttle response is much stronger.. i did notice some more torque

D4u2s0t 08-29-2006 12:48 PM

K&N claims about 3 hp... couple this with the airbox mod and you have the equivelant of a cai for 39 dollars, minus the bling factor...

savior 08-29-2006 12:54 PM

yeah, when i modded this last night, my airbox got torn to shit, but at least i have a HUGE air filter on that sorta draws away the attention

however, i did throw a CEL which ill have to read and clear soon.. but thats normal when adding intake mods

yeah, but the bling factor is what dumb 20 year old girls go for.

savior 08-29-2006 01:02 PM

no one is gonna see under my hood except for the kid who helped me install the air filter so i dont care

only when i have a turbo ill show what under my hood and... well... the turbo comes with its own air filter

which filter did you use for the airbox mod? i plan to do the "Airbox mod STAGE 2" this week. better bust out my tripod....

savior 08-29-2006 01:10 PM

lol just remember to take your tripod out your back seat! <3

i used the K&N RE 0930 but it was a little TOO big... we had to used a razor and cut out a little triangle on the rubber necking of the filter to make it fit! however, it still work wonderfully and its HUGE!

best bet... amazon.com

beware though, you will most likely throw a CEL so if i were you i'd get a code reader for like 20 dollars

btw... what is the aibox mod stg 2? lol

if you want me to take pics of my engine bay ill do it now

savior 08-29-2006 01:12 PM

i just tell the girls that there is SOOOO much bling under my hood, that they'd go blind if they saw it

resonator removal = stage 1
hacking the airbox apart = stage 2

it was a joke.

the reason i ask was penquinpie says the "pipe" is about 3.5 inches around. AEM makes a dryflow filter that's 3.5 inch inlet (only 3.5 i could find) so i ordered that. i've got beck sending me an OEM airbox for me to hack apart. my goal with this project is to both mount the cone filter and at the same time, keep it secure AND make it a five minute swap back to stock. i got the air tank full and the camera charged... this ought to be interesting... any photos anyone could post would be grand, as i'm trying to add to the work of others... ideally to make it a more useable and professional modification. thanks.

if i can find our camera, ill snap a shot for you now.. hold on

joeworkstoohard 08-29-2006 01:51 PM

jebus, that's massive. lol. but yeah, you've basically got going on what i had in mind. keeping the top part of the boc clampable. to the lower half. does it rattle at all without the OEM filter rubber in place?

side note: i notice that you removed the engine cover... just so you know, that little plastic riser that the oil cap is on, comes off. it just rotates to the left and then the cap can attach right to the valve cover.

D4u2s0t 08-29-2006 01:55 PM

how is that filter attached?? doesn't look like it's on there very good.... do NOT take that to a dealer and tell them you have a cel... they'll laugh their ass off at you...

looks like it's just kinda crammed in there... clamps FTW.

savior 08-29-2006 01:57 PM

does not rattle at all...

when you start your car up you'll hear it suck up air... when you turn your car off, you'll hear it squeeze out its last breath...

other then that, the acceleration (especially from 3k and up) is greatly improved.

i am upload a video right now - keep in mind i only had one hand to control the steering wheel and to shift so i didnt WOT... plus i had two 100 lb salt bags in the trunk of my car lol

savior 08-29-2006 01:58 PM

yeah, the filter was big enough that we just pushed it in there... there is no movement at all from the intake

i bet your'e getting out cel because it's not attached properly... air is being sucked in through a gap, not through the filter.... i'm willing to bet on that...

i'm betting on the K&N may have puked some oil onto the MAF.
