lnf turbo on 2.4?

After putting my hands on my buddys 09 LNF, I assume it is the 2.4 detuned to 2.0, same heads, same intake locations. It literally looks like GM just took my motor, strapped a turbo to it and dropped it into his car. With that said, has anyone looked at the feasibility of adding the turbo to the 2.4 as was done with the supercharger? It just looks like it would be easier, no alternator swap and custom tensioner required. (if anyone says get it tuned, you fail, thats a given)

Perfect.disguise 12-27-2008 08:07 PM

The LNF is not a "detuned" 2.4, but yes it will fit.

Turbo06Sedan 12-29-2008 10:55 AM

Just buy the hahn kit..or make your own.

oem turbos suck

Perfect.disguise 12-29-2008 06:25 PM

^ Hmm
Keep in mind it will be cheaper. The SS/TC can make 322whp and 365 Ftlbs on it. The 2.4's CR is higher so it will make more power per lb than the LNF.

Dayta 12-29-2008 06:27 PM

deff go aftermarket turbo kit, much more power out of it then a stock turbo, hahnhas one of the best kits for the 2.4

steddy2112 12-29-2008 06:29 PM

But you won't be able to run 22PSI off the bat

The K04 is a great turbo, but for the LE5 I wold get a disco potato.

Unless you can score the K04 for cheap...also if you get the one off the SS, try to get the mani as well.

Overall it depends on what you want.

Overall drivability?

Don't get some monster turbo...

.

Why do you say that?...

steddy2112 12-29-2008 06:44 PM

You honestly think a LE5 with a basic turbo kit and a K04 could handle 22psi?

Red2.4SS is putting down his numbers on like 10 psi on a disco potato.

That is the same turbo that is used in the Synapse upgrade kit I believe

Perfect.disguise 12-29-2008 06:50 PM

Heh, Hahn put down 373whp 375ft-lbs on a stock 2.4 with 21lbs on a Super 20G.

REAL ANSWER:

It will not fit. The exhaust manifold does not fit though it looks similar. I have an LNF setup sitting in my spare bedroom, and had a 2.4L before my buddy totalled his Solstice 3 weeks ago. They do not fit. The heads are definitely NOT the same. The injectors on the 2.4L are located on the top of the intake manifold and spray over the valves, the injectors on the LNF sit under the intake manifold and spray into the combustion chamber. Totally different top end.

Hahn kits are awesome with the 2.4L. Put a kit on a solstice about 2 months ago maybe less and even at 8psi it is rockin'!

And I personally know Tony in Vegas who has the mentioned Hahn car with 22psi (used to be Hahns personal car). He drives on the street with like 12psi, and then cranks it up to 18psi for racing. It does not run 22psi all day long.

WhiteSSBalt 12-29-2008 06:57 PM

holy hell Tsunam1, where have you been!?!

Perfect.disguise 12-29-2008 06:59 PM

I was told it fits. Whats off?

So the manifold off the LNF doesn't fit anything?

Or am I misreading that?

I read it right.

DAMN... that kinda sucks for all the other eco's...

Bolts and ports don't line up. They have a similar looking stagger though, but not the exact same, and not workable. It would work with a custom Exhaust manifold, but then the SIDI turbo is not really big enough to have fun with the 2.4L in the long run. Intake manifolds are a definite NO GO.

We tried, because it would have been a nearly free turbo upgrade for my buddies solstice. In the end he is getting the Tjin Ninja Green Solstice with the Hahn kit since he totalled his Solstice.

steddy2112 12-29-2008 07:04 PM

The Hahn kit is a nice kit.

Lots of options too...when I traded the black car in, I was considering the Hahn kit.

http://memimage.cardomain.com/ride_i...0151_large.jpgActual solstice my roomate is getting.

Down side: No side windows because they had to be removed for the race legal roll cage.

But that car has like $40,000 in goodies on it, even Formula 1 style jacks that you push a button and four airjacks lift the car off the ground.

He also bought back his totalled one for $1,800 and tha's being made into a racecar too.

steddy2112 12-29-2008 07:10 PM

That car is a sweet buy if you have a garage for it.

I remember when that was for sale on here(or still is) for a decent price.

Single bolt wheels are fucking cool as hell

Your roomate is buying Neil Tjin's Solstice? Crazy stuff. I still have the posted of the car on my wall.

HunterKiller89 12-29-2008 10:50 PM

i want a Kappa car soooooooo bad! god damn....
sky is preferred in my book tho

tsunam1 01-07-2009 07:19 PM

Started thread then pc crashed, awesome work program. Anyways nice to know that there is a difference between the two, it looked identical. I like that they used the cam phasing with the new turbo setup though. Unfortunately I do not see a hahn kit in my future, I would just as soon use the cost of the kit as a down payment on a new ss/tc and get the GM warranty. It would have been nice to know that I could wait for some non-driver to trash one then rape it for cheap at the junk yard....... But I guess I could still do that and just drop in the whole engine.....

There is at least one LE5 running an LNF exhaust manifold in this thread:

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/2-4l...39/index2.html

I have found a few others in random places as well.

I know this thread is old but maybe we can get a definitive answer after all these years?

Holy shit man, bump a thread that was generated years prior to your joining to answer questions already know.

The exhaust mani fits fine, intake mani is a no go

What does my join date have to do with it? Its an old thread that contains apparently erroneous information that I would think everyone here would like corrected. Being new, had I started a new thread, you probably would had told me to search which would have revealed this erroneous thread.

I did find other threads saying it would work but no one that had actually completed one. It seems ideas are common but motivation is not.

Multiple people have used it. Your other thread someone even commented in it that it was used. 2008 was when the LNF was introduced, so picking a thread from 2008 isn't the best when looking for information. Also given the fact parts from a LE5 fit the L61, if it fits the L61 it fits the LE5, and there are a number of people that have done that. Including one who figured out the intake manifold just does not work and even showed how it doesnt work. You have to read complete long threads to pull this information out, there are not threads that have it posted in the first 5 posts
