Also with new cars you do not need to let the car idle down and if you are in -30 then you have a block heater and really don't waste gas then.

one time in my old 88 pontiac 6000. the muffler got loose and was barely hanging on. so i had to have it like this until i was able to get it fixed. it was really really funny. my friend had a big sport truck and it was alot louder than that lol. it always felt like the car was gonna explode when i hit high RPMs.
no muffler=poor kid with an 88 pontiac...not a new cobalt.

well my post here has done rather well, but guess what people?? A new car will always get bad gas milage at first cause its new and things take time to seat into place, gaskets etc..lol but thanks just the same.. the car gets 9.7L per 100k soo its ok now, and i never thought having no muffler would blow up my engine u know...lol

backpressure has pretty much alot to do with everything. changing or taking off the muffler isnt going to do much, but take off your entire exhaust system and see how nicely your car runs. it will run like ****.

Re-read my posts and don't even know exactly what I was saying. After owning this Cobalt for over a year I can say I actually do get slightly better mileage in warm weather. Emissions concerns have a part in the cold start up fuel usage, I believe more fuel is used than necessary, in order to lower certain exhaust emissions.
