Hey everyone. Iv been looking towards some new seats but wondering about the seatbelts. If I switch seats with I still keep the regular seat belts or will those have to be removed. If removed, how will the air bags know to turn on.

the seatbelts are in no way connected to the seats other then the seat buckle

change seats and use the seat buckle on the new seats

seat belts have nothing to do with the air bags

The only issue that I can see is with the passenger seat. There is a weight sensor in the seat IIRC that turns off/on the airbag based on the weight of the passenger. That may be something to look into when getting new seats. I am not sure if there is a solution to this but there may be something out there for this.

i have bride low max seats, and just get harness's and and a harness bar if you happen to get racing seats.

I purchased 2 seats from the wrecking yard. Took off the seats and put the race seats in their place. Hook up your harness under the seat to the new seat. You retain stock seatbelt stuff, and you can move foward and back since your using stock rails.

Did that make sense? Cobalt seats are cheap in the salvage yard.

the stock seatbelt buckle is what i meant. my bad. so its connected to the seats and the passenger side seat has a sensor to tell the air bags to turn on. No one knows how to get it to stay on at all times? Does the driver airbag have a sensor or is it always on?

and spank, so what your saying is that when i get the new seats, i need to buy a harness to use the seats on the stock seat rails. How would the seat slide back and forth without that handle in the front of the seat or does that handle stay there when seat is removed.

I dont know about SS/TC but the SS/SC does not have a sensor on the pass seat.

incorrect.. i have a sensor in my car.. maybe the one's with recaros didn't but i have that sensor

Yea must be non recaros then, my g85 ss/sc has no sensor

Just go to a wrecking yard and by driver seat and passenger seat, with the rails, seatbelt attachment, everything.

Next take the seat off the rails. Attach the racing seat, use the seatbelt attachment that came with the new seat. New seat should have the attachment for the wiring under the seats.

Now you can go from racing seats to stock seats in about 5 minutes. All stock hookup for seatbelts and the wiring under the seats.

I can switch out the seats in about 5 min each. Go racing, Sunday evening pull them out, put in stock seat, again hook up the wiring under the seat, same attachments, and voila!

Clean, simple and fully adjustable.

I saved 24 pounds per seat. Saving 50 lbs just in two seats, then going to a Braile in back another 15-20 lbs saved, now your at 65 pounds lighter. Take out the spare and your now about 80 pounds lighter and you have done nothing that cannot be undone in 20 minutes total.

Issue I have with getting a harness bar in a daily driver is that you cant have people in the back seat. Yes they fit but, I wont get into the back seat of a car with a harness bar. I like having teeth I think having teeth is one of the best things ever and if the driver slams on the brakes or gets into an accident the harness bar will make me not have teeth anymore. I guess you could supply full face helmets to your back seat passengers.

Id rather just run the harness of the back deck/put the harness bar back there. That way you still get the correct harness angle and people can still use your back seats as long as you are wearing the normal seat belt and tie the harness down.
