So its time for a tune...

I have a few bolt ons and nothing crazy ( I pushed 195WHP on my dyno on the "As Is" tune aka factory as far as I know )

I am in the market for a tune and the local Kentucky Tuner is crazy busy all over the place with other customers so I thought I would sit down and do a littl reasearch. So far from what I can tell HPTuners = Aggressive Trifecta = Not as aggressive. The one thing I liked about Trifecta is the possibility of using my toggle cruise control to switch between an aggressive tune vs fuel economy tune (Is that even possible?)

I plan on doing quite a bit to the powertrain (Turbo, Cams, Header) in the future but thats not going to be soon (About a year is what I've been thinking). I know I shouldn't expect more than 15% of what I am running WHP right now but to me, that 15% is actually about 25 horses, and on the NA, thats pretty substantial considering.

My question to those 2.4 NAs that are still NA and tuned, would you choose one over the other and why? If you chose one over the other for a specific reason, what was that reason?

I know 220 WHP sounds crazy on my setup but there were 4 other people that were at the dyno that were shocked by my numbers, even the local tuner was baffled... but apparently its there. I want to get another Dynojet to confirm though and I'm still waiting on my damn graph from them anyway.

I've already used the search feature but most I come up with is 10 threads about an HPTune issue on an LNF or a Trifecta issue on an LSJ (You see the issue)

I have asked questions of the local tuner and he said by hooking mine up to his software, I can expect anywhere from 5% to 15% I figure Ill go in the middle and squeeze another 20 horses @ 10% out of it before I drop it drop it drop it LOOOOOWWW (HAHA).

Price is obviously an issue and I honestly won't trust just anyone with the tune (James is probably the only one because of his history with other balts/ions)

Any input is appreciated!

I wouldn't waste my money on a tune honestly. Not until you get more mods to make it worth it. Just my .02.

Injen CAI, ZZP LSJ Downpipe with high flow cat, resonater and muffler delete on 2.5" custom mendrel bent exhausr to a magnaflow 11226 muffler. I imagine stiffening the suspension helps a little as well so ssc lowering springs. Thats it for performance. I do believe I have an 08 with forged internals but im not certain, nor do I know how to find out...

Yea, because I made a simple comment that lowering springs aren't going to make a change in your whp on the dyno.

Im not even trying to pick on him, I was offering advice and saving him money in the process. Then he said maybe its his springs making his whp better, I pointed out that's not happening... Im a bad guy lol.

At least his thread is getting attention now

Sorry but those dynojet numbers are very exagerated. You really think you got 30hp with just exhaust mods on an N/A 4 cyl? Not only that but you did not mention that you added a header or anything so its impossible. Even if you had the best flowing exhaust put on your car such as a whole ZZP LTH set-up to 2.5 straight pipe, you would not see 20whp without a tune. Im not trying to be a dick, Im just hoping you realize that 200whp NA is hard and your not going to be able to do it with bolt-ons and a tune.

Its always better to get dyno-tuned but if there are no places around Trifecta is still worth the money. You can talk to Vince, datalog, and ask him to make it a bit more aggressive. Its always better to be reliable, consistent, and fast then really fast and blow up.

Please not that you will feel a difference with a tune but if your fully bolted and everything, its still only like 5whp you get from the tune. The benefit is that it smooths out the powerband and makes the power delivery more even. Thats what makes it faster.

well I undetstand the "impossibility" of the numbers abd maybe the dynojet exxaggerrates. Ive only had one dyno and those were the numbers. Hence why I want to get dynod again to confirm the numbers and have something to baseline off of.

Yea I would do that first and see because I can gurantee if you go somewhere else the numbers will be different. With your mods most people are around the advertised ratings to the wheels, like 175-180whp, but Im not a 2.4 junkie so thats just a guess.
