Traction Control??
I have a 2007 2.4L SS, Automatic. Recently when driving, the Traction control light pops on, and the info center says to "service Traction". This ONLY happens when I am driving on an extremely humid day, for more than ten minutes. Shortly after that, the engine light will come on. If I turn the car off and back on TWICE, the traction control resumes proper working condition, and the engine light shuts off. Also, when the traction control shuts off, the car shifts extremely hard. Shaking the whole car. Anyone have any clues as to why, or have any experience with this??

Best thing to do is to see what the code it when the light comes on. If u can get the code then I can help u out.

of 2.4's are having this same exact problem theirs something up with our cars and this should be a goddam recall, you dont know how many people, including myself have experinced this, my guess is it is a sensor in the cam that has gone bad causing this to happen its so weird.

My traction control light has been coming on and off and today the traction and engine light came on. What kind of miles are your guys cars got on them? Mine just hit 147,000
I just had the same issue with my 08' Sport. luckily it was still under warranty. They found a short in the rear sensor harness and a faulty RR sensor. i was getting the same message along with the "Service ESC" message. It took me being an a**hole and not letting them tell me nothing was wrong because they couldnt reproduce it, before they actually fixed it. But since they replaced the harness and sensor i have not had any issues.

ive got almost 51,000 one mine both the check engine light and t/c light come on simultaneously! so goddam annoying if i had the time i would take ot to the dealer but my warranty is up unfortunatly, did you catch how muhc it cost to repair and replace those sensors by any chance just so i can have a ballpark estimate when i bring mine in?
So what are the sensors that
Need to be changed to fix this? Getting tired of those damn light coming on and rely tired of the hard ass shifts!!! Thanks guys |
I'm having this same stupid problem.. would really like to know what sensors need to be fixed and an estimate on how much it would cost. It's starting to get really annoying!
Mine ended up being my intake cam solenoid
I've heard of that too. Any idea how much that costs?
No idea, I had extended warranty and they covered it. I heard it's under 100 thou
Oh that's not bad. Probably worth it so I don't have to see the dumb light and have hard shifts anymore.
I just bought and replaced the intake and exaust cam sensors myself. The sensors were $56 a piece and took 10 mins to do. Very easy fix.
Got a DIY on how to replace them?
^this would be very helpful. Also, where did you buy your sensors from?
I don't have any pic but I would be more than happy to explain how to replace them....
If you remove the plastic cover on the engine and look on top of the valve cover. You will see four coil packs that lead to the spark plugs. To the passenger side u will see two sensors and if you look at the valve cover you will see int and ext. That shows you the intake and exhaust sensors. There is a 10mm bolt holding them in. Remove that bolt and take a screw driver and pry up on the plastic that the wiring harness plugs into and the sensor. FYI these sensors are impregrnated in oil so have a rag ready. Make sure the o ring came out with the sensor. Do one at a time one sensor will have a black top and the other silver. That's pretty much it that I did for my 06 2.4l... Hope this helps and if u have any questions please feel free to ask and I'll help how ever I can... |
Also I bought mine from the dealer. If u have an 06 make sure the sensors don't have a 90 deg plug cause this is the wrong ones. The ones u need are straight and the connector is one the top of the sensor.
Thank you, this is going to be super helpfull!
I'll hopefully be able to get around to it sometime this week but if I have any questions I'll know who to ask. haha |
Just replaced both the intake and exhaust cam sensors and it didnt solve anything. My car is for sale I've got a guy coming to look at it today so does anyone know what might be causing this traction control problem and how it could be fixed quickly?
you may have to clear the code to get the computer to realize that you have changed anything. I finally brought my car into the shop today and scanned the codes. P0010 and P0011 both relating to the Intake Camshaft Actuator Solenoid, I followed the tests in the service information and found my Solenoid to be bad. Tested the exhaust one with the fancy scan tool and it works fine. Will be replacing the sensor tomorrow. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with this problem, and my car only has 72000 miles on it.
I ended up disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes and after that everything seemed to be fine, both my check engine light and my TC light were off. Not sure if it was the new solenoids or if the system was going nuts and needed to be reset but whatever it was it seemed to do the trick. The important part is my car sold and now I can go pick up the new white one! :thumb:
