welcome to a global economy. its just not practical to make vehicles only for 1 market. you end up with dozens of different parts all doing the same things and its way more expensive than making 1 or 2 for them.

I have worked for gm for 10 years i understand a global economy and how its cheaper to manufacture cars but the quality deminishes hens the cruze colorado aveo

the problem is with management not build/design location. they need to demand that the quality be good before its allowed to go into production. we have seen kia/hyundai improve their quality a lot in the last 5 years. they made quality a priority because just the lowest price was getting them nowhere after 20+ years of that plan. obviously it takes time to make that change and see how it holds up long term but initial quality is much improved.

Hate to tell you but the Hyundai/Kia engines are built way better than the Daewoo/Opel designed engines. Timing belts?? Really?? I thought technology was supposed to move forward, not backwards. GM just slapped an Ecotec name plate onto the craptastic new engines in the Cruze/Sonic. It's nowhere nearly as good as the real Ecotec engines. Just really sad GM has all the resources available to make a truly great small car and instead, has to resort to "borrowing" an older design that's been everywhere but here and call it "new". Disgusting........

Care to back up those statements with facts?? Of course not, because you have no facts on anything, just the bullshit that you call a post.
Kia/Hyundai engines are garbage. Some still use timing belts, and ALL the old ones used timing belts. I've seen them break the belts at 60K miles and lose the whole motor becasue they are so poorly built. They are also notorious for oil consumption due to the poss poor quality piston rings and PCV design.
Once again, you prove how ignorant you are - the 1.4 Ecotec is a timing CHAIN engine, with forged rods, structural cast aluminum pan, sodium filled intake valves, and VVT. The 1.4L, even being GM's smallest engine, is better than any engine Hyundai has ever built or tried to build.
Amazing how you worship Hyundai/Kia, which is a Korean meatball of a company that pumps out garbage in huge numbers for cheap prices, but then when the Cruze's 1.8L engine has a vague connection to GM's korean market, you jump on it like a fly on ****.
You, sir, are a complete loss.
