The Cruze follows another GM small-car flop, the Chevy Cobalt, which failed because it looks dated, is noisy, has a chintzy hard-plastic interior and doesn't perform as well as competitors.

cobalts interior is very shitty. i think the cruze will start a great small car trend with gm and get them out of their shitty small cars they have been building for so many years

Enthusiasts like us care about the powertrain, which is why they need to make an SS model to cater to the other 1% of buyers.
The LNF, perhaps with a small power bump and a 6 speed manual, would suit a Cruze SS just fine.

I think the front end looks kind of dated but so does the Scion tc after not being changed for 5 model years now. If they did a refresh and had a 6-speed, cleaned up the interior a little (from what I hear), they would have a competitive car. How come GM does not listen to its customers. The 5 speed turns me off but not enough to consider it. I mean, the RSX type s has had a 6 speed since 2002. What are you doing GM? Get with it a little bit and earn your sales!

I'll pass. GM is going to have to improve the quality of their vehicles greatly before I buy another GM product. I'll wait and see if there are any improvements after the car has been in peoples hands for a while. I'm sure it'll be the same old mediocre stuff GM loves to release. We shall see!

The RSX-S also costs more than the Cobalt and lacks many features in other departments. It uses the same brakes and chassis components as a Civic, it only has 16" wheels, and the engine only has 200HP. Not only that, but Hondas 6 speeds are complete junk, go to any Honda forum and all you'll read about is 6 speed RSX-S's and Civic Si's chewing up synchros and blowing up on a regular basis. Its a very poorly designed trans. Honda even has a TSB stating that you can't skip gears in the 6 speed because "severe damage will result". If the internal components weren't so undersized and cheap it wouldn't be an issue.
btw rsx-s and civic si's come with 17" wheels.

not true at all. the trannies on the rsx and civics only blow if your making a lot more power than stock, being supercharged or turbocharged. however i can say there are guys making upwards of 450whp on the stock tranny and its holding. also, the 6 speed on my 06 civic si felt MUCH better than the cobalts. its so buttery smooth with every shift and just feels overall better. the only TSB out is one for the common 3rd gear issue.
There are multiple TSB's, which involve 2nd gear, 3rd gear, synchronizers, and skip shifting. Honda used such cheap synchro/blocker ring assemblies in the RSX-S/Si that they do not even last under stock power. Owners have reported severe gear clash with only a few thousand miles on bone stock cars. It was such a widespread issue that it made national news. Honda still refuses to address the issue, which is typical.
i myself have even had the 3rd gear issue and it was a very simple fix, i just changed the tranny fluid to amsoil and it was gone. no more problems with it again. i used to skip gears just about every time i drove it too.....
