ECU swap

I have an 06 L61 2.2L Cobalt which I think has the E16A ecu. I am wanting to swap to a different ECU so I have tuning options. Maybe an E37 ECU? I was just wondering if there are any later model (07+) ECU's that will work with my crank/reluctor as well as connect to my BCM. Or if I can somehow run it in standalone mode. I really know nothing about the ECU's or BCM's on these cars and was wondering if anyone had and sources or anything I could use to check compatibility. I don't mind swapping a engine harness.

Im not sure if this idea would work, but why dont you get a 2006 2.4 cobalt engine harness and the e67 ecm it uses. If all the sensors like crank, cam, oil pressure, coolant, o2s and everything is the same connector as the 2.2 i dont see why it wouldnt work. All you would have to do is tune out the VVT on the ecm and add individual coils. I could be wrong but that is one thing i thought of. The e67 is a great ecm btw.

You need a gen2 crank and head regardless. None of the newer ecus will work with your crank trigger wheel.

i was thinking of the crank trigger wheel off the crank. It happens when we do LS swaps and use different gen motors. Wasnt sure if cobalts had the same thing
