HARROP TVS, What You Need To Know & FAQ

Since the previous thread has gotten lost in the shuffle and ran into a bunch of useless posts, I am re-hosting this. Try to keep it cleaner this time.

**Please keep in mind the views expressed in this post are the personal experience of myself and basic info to get you started. Use the information at your own risk**

For a starters:

WickedSS2005's Personal Experience
My initial setup was the bare minimum. My last dyno was 318/288 @ 7,395rpm w/ afr of 11.9 and 17* timing @ 69*F w/ 48% humidity; and was still on the way up. Stock air box mod, pacesetter header, 3" catless dp, 3" custom exhaust, secondary cobra h/e, no meth. IAT2's topped at 133*F after the third pull. My 2.6/60's setup hit 160+ IAT2's after multiple runs and dyno'd in at 258/239.

Questions

so just out of curiosity, would it help if you tried to port the TVS at all? and i noticed that is doesnt the silencer holes like the m62 yet it is still a quieter whine for some reason any one know?
The TVS is designed for maximum performance and a direct statement from HARROP itself states: "Porting the HTV1320 can and will decrease performance and void warranty. Through extensive testing it has been designed to be the most effective directly from the manufacturer"

What PSI can I expect from "x" pulley? *note, this is with 2.5" exhaust and stock header/dp. Take off 1-3psi depending on exhaust components
64mm / 2.5" ~ 27.5 psi
70mm / 2.75" ~ 25 psi
75mm / 2.95" ~ 22.5 psi
80mm / 3.15" ~ 20 psi
85mm / 3.35" ~ 17.5 psi
89mm / 3.5" ~15psi

Per Area47, note this is with a higher redline w/ upgrade valvetrain: as a slight correction to the psi reference.
if you spin the motor high enough a 3.1 pulley will make 23psi. a 2.9 will make 25, and a 2.75 will make 26.5. 99% of the tvs owners will not spin their engines to 7900 to see this. i personally have seen 27psi out of the 2.75 ring

i've already spent the 250 on my K&N .... will it fit up to the TVS... if not what needs to be done and/or who sells one that will fit??
Yes, the 2.75" intakes will work with the TVS. It's more of a matter of what Throttle Body you are running and use a coupler to make up the difference from the K&N to an LS4 throttle body.

OTTP has just released a full 3" intake designed for the utmost ease of use. No rubbing, clears the '07 brake lines, full stainless steel. ZZP and RAW also offer a 3" intake. Fujita F5 cai for the ss/sc is a 3" intake as well.

Personally, I tested on the stock air box mod

how hard is it to install any how tos or pics?
There's a how-to on here. It varies slightly from a how-to to swapping pullies on the M62. Only diff is you need to make a modification to the MAP sensor and angle it to fit beneath the housing of the TVS and adjust your oil dipstick. Piece of cake.

What numbers can I expect?
My final numbers were 318hp/282tq. My mods were as follows: airbox mod, stock tb, 60# injectors, stock endplate and manifold, cobra h/e in-series with stock h/e, 90% distilled water/10% coolant w/ bottle of water wetter in the f/i cooling system, stock head, stock internals, 1.75" primary pacesetter header, custom 3" catless dp, custom 3" exhaust, stock clutch, stock axles, TTR motor/trans mounts. Best 1/4 mile was 13.1@110. 60' was 2.4 seconds.

does anyone happen to know the rpm rate of the tvs as far as pulley's go and what's safe? the stock m62's safest small pulley was the 2.8, but you can get away with a 2.7. i was going to throw my current 2.75 on if i went with the tvs, which i was told by my tuner would be perfectly safe. i'm curious if i could go a little smaller and still be safe?
Good question. From my understanding, a 2.5" pulley is not going to harm the blower. I do not know the rpm limits off hand. Keep in mind, there is a difference in max sustained rpm, and max absolute rpm. I doubt anyone would ever sustain the tvs at 2.5" pulley running 8k engine rpm. you'd be asking for damage. The pulley for the M62 will not bolt up to the TVS

the TVS is the stet-up I'm looking at getting. My question is, will the stage 3 pcm be safe to run with the TVS?
No, a custom tune is needed.

im assuming you need the smaller belt if pulley down the TVS like the M62?
Yes you do. Stock belt is fine for the 80mm pulley but like the M62 will require a larger tensioner pulley or stage 2 belt.

What kind of fueling do you plan on running? I am on the 2.9" and my IDC's are at 97-98% at 7350 RPM's

Very properly put sir;) My car on the 3.1" was only making 18psi at 6800........ Boost in my opinion is insignificant as there are too many different factors for each set-up to make a generalized statement like the original post

JimHarr18 08-08-2009 07:58 PM

i was most likely going to stick with the stock fuel rail rather than go with a return system. i currently have 60's in my car, but upgrading to 79's or 80's did cross my mind, but really only if i needed to. i do not know my idc's, but on the stock m62 i have a 2.75, redline is at 7k, and my tune is not aggressive at all.

scott allen 08-08-2009 07:59 PM

mine was only making 18 also,so instead of spinning the crap out of it i just pulleyed down.

yeah, i have no plans to raise my limiter, at least not too far over 7200. and as far as max blower rpm, while i won't say i never run the car to redline, i don't do it too often to the point where i could justify myself getting a SLIGHTLY smaller pulley. i wouldn't mind a 2.6 to be honest, but again, only if i'm not maxing out the blower before 6800 engine rpm.

You know the pulleys from the M62 and TVS are not interchangable correct? My reccomendation is to look alot deeper into what "you" want with the car before jumping to a TVS.. Also, do more research on fueling...

Well that has its' advantages and disadvantages.... Me personally a 2.9" with a nice P&P head and a built valvetrain revving to 7500-7700 would seem ideal pending further research

scott allen 08-08-2009 08:07 PM

i shift around 7100 to 7200.

From what I gather is sounds like you need a better tune then

This is why I had put the fromt he beginning: w/ 2.5" exhaust and stock header/dp

Well, added the stock header/dp for clarification just now, but it has always said w/ 2.5" exhaust

I was reffering to your earlier post in a sense.(IT was posed towards WickedSS2005)

scott allen 08-08-2009 08:18 PM

i know whats up with that 290 aint much for my mods,it was on a mustang dyno but damn. that was on the stock pulley and no meth i just added all that.

TxLonghorn#1 08-08-2009 08:34 PM

the TVS is the stet-up I'm looking at getting. My question is, will the stage 3 pcm be safe to run with the TVS?

WickedSS2005 08-08-2009 08:43 PM

No. A custom tune is needed, the stage tune would only be a limp until you get to the performance shop for a real tune. And a very short limp too

The stage 3 pcm is locked........

This I know. I was posting with the assumption that I was strictly answering the stage tunes are not useable. But you do get to keep your stock PCM when you go to stage 3, so tuning is still possible

TxLonghorn#1 08-08-2009 09:28 PM

Is a 2.5inch full exhaust suitable? Also, with my mods, what should it get to allow me to run the TVS safely?

Mods:
Ijen CAI

harryresh 08-09-2009 12:07 PM

def gonna do this

StreetDreamz 08-09-2009 12:09 PM

Harryresh, I'm only about 3 hours from you if you wanna do the Harrop set up. I know tuning and all for the Harrop.

Snakes709 08-09-2009 03:16 PM

i wonder what it would be like to run a 2.5" pulley on the tvs..lol. Of course having the mods to support it so the car doesnt blow up.
