Mid Engine Corvette Is A Reality.

Very excited to see this on the street. The best Vette yet. Finger crossed, one day I hope to have one in my driveway.

they have had prototype spottings of the mid engine "corvette" (i say it in quotes cause we dont know if it will even be called a corvette) since the c6 was in production. i seem to recall seeing a pic of both the c7 and the mid engine in camo just before the c7 was released. kinda just wish they would release it already, im tired of the speculation.

The Mid engine test mule has been spotted when they were developing the current ZR1 a few years back. The new mid engine race car will be racing next year in the IMSA series replacing the current C7R. This reminds me like the pre introduction of the C7.

Some rendering of what it may look like and if the real thing look like this is a winner. Tremec DCT with current push rod in the base model and Dual Cam with TT in Z06 plus electric motor and active aero on ZR1 in years follow.

Its gonna be interesting, esp to work on. Probably will be me and one other guy who only get's to touch them in the shop.

cluelessk 09-17-2018 12:01 PM

It's a sure thing. It's spent the whole Summer testing in Germany.

Probably be released in Feb of next year as a MY2020.

I've heard they'll sell it along side the existing C7 since the C8 will be like a 150k.

There has been talk about it within gm for a time. Either a 2020 or 2021 car. Its not much of a corvette imo though. Corvette was not supposed to be a super car.

That changed with the Z06. They've reached the limit of the FR layout with the ZR1.

Plus the Camaro competes prettywellwith the base Vette.

Sharkey 09-17-2018 03:12 PM

back when they were first created, lambos and ferraris were just sports cars as well. engine position has nothing to do with it being a supercar, if that were the case the fiero and mr2 are super cars lol. the c7 z06 pushes the car past the line into supercar territory, let alone the c7 zr1.

one thing i am seeing a ton of scuttle and complaining is the price. ive seen claims where its gonna cost anywhere from $60k to $200k. so many people are claiming its no longer "the blue collar sports car", the corvette hasnt been for a long time. providing the mid engine car is taking over from the front engine car, im sure the base model will line up cost wise pretty close to what a base c7 is, and im sure the high end models will approach $200k. hell, a customer of mine has a c7-R, the dealer he bought it from has a c7 zo6 they are trying to sell him, he wont tell me the price but its on their website for $203k canadian. i should also mention this isnt a chevrolet dealer, its a supercar dealer, they ordered a brand new z06 right from gm, so that tells you where gm is targeting the higher corvette models.

there is also the rumors that corvette will be its own brand, offering the c7 platform and the new mid engine car. hard to say if that will happen, doing the same thing didnt work out very well for chrysler when they split SRT into its own division, cause after 2 years they scrapped that plan and went back to the way it was. i also dont know that its wise to have 2 cars of that nature competing with themselves for the long term. once they get production sorted out of the mid engine car, if they can keep the cost similar to the front engine car, why not just go full on with the mid engine?

exninja 09-17-2018 03:27 PM

Having their own division might make it easier to make money on it. I seem to here a lot that large companies' "supercar" offerings don't make money for the company. If they can have their own hierarchy it could be easier. It would be nice if they can make a range of sports cars.

They could always call 1 a vette and the other a stingray.

Sharkey 09-17-2018 10:57 PM

there have been rumors of them calling the mid engine car "Zora"

blrt 09-18-2018 10:14 PM

If they target the sale at the current production level, they will have to keep the price close to the current price range maybe just a few grand for the base model.
This is happening no doubt what ever they want to name the ME car. They will give the 911s a good run for the $ and performance IMO.

What time did he run? Looks like he click baited that title. He also mentions the track is green (slower). Fastest production car on wiki car shows a McLaren Senna at 1:27:62

USMCFieldMP 06-12-2020 12:28 PM

Definitely click-bait. YouTube description:

As a result of the above mentioned, I was able to put down the fastest lap for a C8 Corvette at Laguna Seca Raceway.

blrt 06-14-2020 11:43 AM

It didn't really say what time he did. Maybe just the quickest in that group It seems the McLaren is still quicker? Regardless still very impressive for an entry level vette? The Z06 and ZR1 should just be a beast of a car with more HP.
