Question Caliper Painting Question

I Bought some caliper spray paint recently and now i am wondering if my local body shop can paint them for me. should i give them the paint i bought from advanced auto or do they have something better because i think it has to be heat resistant paint.

try it yourself first, no sense paying a shop to do something you could probably do.
then if you mess up or it sucks, you can always have a shop do it.

Return the spray paint and order the g2 brush on caliper paint system. You can't screw that up and it works and looks really nice.

If your truly afraid to do them I'll teach you how. You just need paint, sand paper, some acetone, and patience.

first off, just do it by yourself.. its not that hard, just make sure to prep and sand them down well before hand to get off the excess rust

secondly, you dont need a high temp paint. mine are done with regular rustoleum and still look basically brand new after 2 years (with 2 winters of salt)

doing it right took me about 3 hours.. the longest part was prep

Prep work is where it's at. Nothing sticks to oil and dirt.

I used the G2 brush on caliper paint setup you can get from most auto stores. Now at almost a year on the paint and 1 very salty winter and they still look great. Still nice and glossy not faded at all. Seriously its simple as can be. Use some sand paper to knock down any spots you dont like. Then spray with brake caliper cleaner wait 10 minutes or so for it to dry (honestly less but I like giving things time) then start painting. Just do several coats and it will come out nice and smooth.

As far as taking them off goes you only need to unbolt them to do the best paint job. you dont need to fully remove them from the car. An old wire coat hanger does wonders in this situation to hold the caliper in the air on the car while you paint it. Truth be told if you masked everything off well enough though you could paint the calipers on the car without ever removing anything other than the wheel. Index card painters tape and an old news paper would probably do the trick.

Heres a pic of it. And honestly its a very close match to victory red paint. Though my camera sucks at washing out colors....

btw still waiting for your dyno graph!

Remove your wheels, mask of everything, and paint the calipers while they're on the car. There is no need to remove them. Its just a convience thing.

Like everyone said, its very easy. As long as you take the time to prep it right, it'll come out fine. Don't try and cut corners with prep work though

I used the duplicolor brush on. It's even easier than the spray.
