Color Matched Projo's Lens Cracking?

Hey All,

I am having a bit of an issue with my Projector housings. more specifically the actual clear plastic that covers the entire headlight assemby in.

These were purchased as black and color matched to LASER BLUE by me. Anyone who has taken a pair of these apart you will agree that this is a very MESSY process. So in doing so the clear portion of the lens had to be cleaned.

I am thinking that one of the cleaners that I have used has weakened the plastic and thus caused the below spider cracking.

My question is, has anyone else eperienced this? I was thinking about taking my factory len's covers and replacing these with them.. but dont know if it will fit or not

Any suggestions?

mine are melting on the gen 1 halos without modfying them. you need to run HID i think to run cooler and not melt them.

How long did u let the paint cure before you reassembled the lights ??? Looks like chemical bloom from the paint to me . As paint cures it lets out gases you cant see , and especially if you painted the bezels with the same type of basecoat/clearcoat( as opposed to a spray bomb rattle can ) as the paint on the car ....which doesnt air dry it chemically cures . These gases trapped inside a headlight housing will break down plastic no matter what grade it is . Silicone( the devil ) will also chemically etch plastic if heat from the lights gets to it before it fully cured . That happens almost instantly though , so my guess is the paint wasnt allowed to cure long enuff before you reassembled the light . I typically let paint cure 7-10 days on the bezel before I reassemble .

Is it doing that up in the top corner by where the DRL it lit up normally ? The leneses on the Gen 1's are not rated to withstand the heat made by high filiment DRL being lit up during the day like the OEM lens is . Its a cheap grade polycarbonate . Best bet if have a stock set of headlights is swap stock lenses onto the aftermarket market projectors , that is if they fit correctly .

the paint was allowed almost a week.

So does anyone know if the factory lens will fit onto the projector housing?

Its actually a cheap quality lens.

This was a problem in some earlier headlight painting projects.

When you heat the lens up in the oven or with that heat gun it actually is prematurely ruining that lens.

It was happening in the past when we were painting zx2 and ford contour lights.

Its just a poor quality lens
