front bumper fix

i dont know if this has been answered already i dont have the time to check right now but i found a bulletin today at work about how to fix the front bumper alignment issue. it says the cause is a front bumper beam mounted too high (im assuming on one side). it says to take the front fascia off and loosen the 4 bolts that hold it on. then move the beam down 4-7mm and put the fascia back on and check the alignment. hope this helps. like i said i dont have time to check if its been posted already right now.

please help

So I was driving on the freeway the other day with my new ss/sc and I hit a semi tire in the middle of my lane. Nothing I could do, anyway I broke off the bottom part of my front bumper. The part that makes it look like a kit. Can anyone help me find one for cheap. Maybe the same color. Orange.

is it a common problem that the passenger side doesn't fit right, especially around the bottom side of the head light? seems like mine is pushed out about 1/4"

I took it to the dealer the 2nd week I had the car to get it fixed and was told that I must have hit something and they wouldn't cover it. I didn't push it, I figured they would probably do more harm than good anyways.

If its a common issue i'll have them do it when i get the other recalls taken care of

Exclamation Is this the issue...?

Is this the issue you guys are talking about...? This is my 3 week old 07 SS/SC, it's pretty bad on one side more then the other, but both have the problem either way. I couldn't complain much when I bought it because EVERY Cobalt (wether SS or not) had this exact problem on the lot, I am talking like 30 cars, NO JOKE! My wife used to have a 05 4door and it was perfect, NO gaps like this at all.

what is EXACTLY what mine looks like. the paint is starting to spider web on the bar that goes between the passenger headlight and the grill, on the inward sloping side. hope that makes sense.

******* dealership told me i hit something...

oh it's good to know i'm not the only one with this problem. me and my buddy made the alignment of the front bumper better when we installed my billet grilles. we took the front bumper off completely and when re-installed it made it look a little better. but i think i'm definately going to take it to the dealer and get them to fix it.

Wow, like others have said I too feel a little better knowing I am not the only with this problem. Glad the pics finally helped clear this up! We ALL need to complain to Chevy about this, make them do a recall or something. I plan on writing a letter and calling their complaint line this week. I am also going to try going to my dealer and seeing what they say, I will let you guys know.

From what it sounds like though, according to vacobaltss there is already a TSB out there about this exact issue, so really dealers should be fixing this for us no problem. And if your paint is cracking because of it they should be fixing that as well, if not we ALL need to call GM and complain, via letter or just calling them.

there may be a simpler fix. its up to y'all tho.

here's how the driver's side was before. (this is the passenger's side. haven't fix it yet because I'm lazy.)

here's how the driver's side is now.

What I did was:

before I put the driver's side head light back in after painting both head lights (housing and eyelids) I loosend all four bolts (two on top and two on the bottom) that held the bracket that the headlight sits on in place. then I pushed it down and towarrd the car and had someone tighten all four bolts. It worked the first time. This was on a wim mind you. you may have to play with the bracket and you headlight to get it to work. It's not a perfect solution. but it is better than taking the facia off.

Wow, thanks a bunch man for the pics and description of what you did! Looks perfect, nice work! From what it sounds like, you did exactly what the TSB says to do, although GM says to remove the entire bumper. But it sounds and looks like there is no need for that, good to know.

I think I may just give that a shot myself. Although, I wouldn't mind telling the dealer to do it, this way if something is broke in the process it's their as*, lol!

Anyway, thanks again, I will let you know how it goes

I just did mine yesterday. I did exactly what calmb4dastorm did and it looks a little bit better.

It still creased my bumper from the pressure! (look at passenger side in sig) I might have it in the body shop for the second time since I bought it.

i will let every cobalt owner know that this is bull that the dealerships and GM are not taking action on this if at all possible we do really need to meet up or get in touch b/c us doing it is not go to fix it. i did what you all did and a week later not even it feel back to place i live in VA, fairfax if anyone is in my area please PM me ASAP so this way we can bring proof and just know dealerships dont like to wait to get paid. so if everyone is cool print this whole thread about the bumper so you have pictures of every cobalt with the problem. it just bothers me b/c i to own a 2007 and the paint on my car from the headlights is scraping off and i dont what them to paint it. and again please PM me with any questions. thanks
