It is illegal as hell, so you need to wire a kill switch for them.
Anyways, you would need to do so by using relays. The stock fogs are controlled by the BCM, so you'll need to bypass it and run a power wire directly to the connector of the fogs instead. If you want them to come on automatically with the high beams when your killswitch is set to allow the power to flow, you'll want to tap your high beam wire for the relay turn on wire...
You can find a basic relay at Autozone, so just get one of those, some female blade connectors, a switch, a fuse and some wire and have at it.

Why is that illegal??? It's not impairing your vision in any way. It shouldn't be an issue for other drivers on the road because if a car's coming your way, you're obviously going to turn off your hi-beams anyway...

Im new to this forum, i also was a little miffed by my fog lights turning off when i put on my highbeams, so i did a little research. found a company that makes a box to keep the foglights on with the highbeams. here is the web site:

so i wrote to the sales dept and asked if they can make a box for the Cobalt and here is the response that i got:
We will have to get a wiring diagram for your car. I don't think there will be any problem to make your box, but we always pull a diagram because the manufacturers often throw "curve *****".
I suspect your low beams as well as fog lights turn off when you go to high. If this is the case, we could give you a choice of systems:
A) lows and fogs would stay on with highs - anticipated price of somewhere around $135.00 or
B) fogs stay on with highs / lows will still turn off - anticipated price of somewhere around $95.00
Let me know if you want us to proceed in researching your car.

Well did some Google researching, not sure what the laws in Canada are, but in most states in the U.S. it is illegal to drive with more than 4 forward driving lights on at the same time. I guess they consider the low beams to be on when the highs are turned on, which means the fogs would need to go off.

honestly my high beams do just that and project the light a bit higher up but id still like some light on the ground infront of the car. Plus this could be nice for those of us who plan on swapping HID's into the factory foglight projectors.

um my car didnt come with fogs.... mkulrey wired in my stock fogs to the stock ss bumper, and all you have to do is fuse tap into the DRLS or PARKING LIGHT fuse under the hood... it just so happens that wiring it this way, u obv will have hi beams and fogs too... not really a big deal

The light packages are sold explicitly for "off road use only". Doesn't mean people don't use them on a back road somewhere though. In some states, they have to be covered so you can't use them on the road.

its quite simple really....cut the wires to your fog light bulbs and leave a couple of inches of wire attached to them.attache the brown wire i beleave the the pink wire on your headlight harness (if memory serves its for the high beam ) and ground out the ground to the car or black wire on your headlight harness. pull the fuse out for the foglights and black tape the fog light wires you cut.

Most of you are probably like me and dont wanna cut and mess around with your stock wiring. I will definitely post a new thread showing how to do this. It requires absolutely NO cutting or alterations of your factory wiring. VERY Simple, and can be done in a maximum of 10 mins, and could be un-done within 2 minutes (if you need to take your car in for servicing, warranty work, state/federal inspection of any sort).
