hoodpin help... not rice its got reason behind it
 

Ok so heres the deal have the cf extractor hood and recently ive been finding out cf hoods like to fly up alot more often and alot of ppl have been try to convinve me of hood pins... I also want them so i can just close my hood and not have to slam i on the striker, the hood is very light and you have toslam it hard. I want to get hood pins and disable the hood latch so i can just set the hod own and lock the pins, is this un safe? where should i go from here

i had a JSP carbon fiber hood on my last car and honestly i never had a problem with, and i maxed at 130mph with it on... hood pins look nice but also you can crack your hood from the stress on it where you drill you holes...anyway the factory has a double latch system to prevent that if anything it fails at the point here the latch attaches to the hood..

hoodpins are very safe. a lot of people that race use hood pins. you do take the risk of cracking the hood when drilling the holes for the pins however, if you just take your time on drilling them and not press hard with the drill then you should be fine.

i had pins on my cavalier when it had a CF hood. they were great for a while, until after a few months the clear coat on the hood started to spiderweb from hood vibration where the pins were screwed in. id say if the latch seems secure and you dont run 100mph all the time, stick with the latch.

Hood pins are safe, look at nascar and all of stock car racing and drag racing and everything else. I'd say go for it, they look good 90% of the time. And if you do it go for locking ones with tethers..

Just do it right. Use Cobalt coated drill bits, and go slow while drilling, make the holes over size, then, coat the edges of the drilled hole with epoxy.

Hood pins could also keep the c/f hood from going through the windsheild in an accident.

i found some cool hoodpins that are CF and use keys not pins, so they sit flush with the hood, so you plug the "Key" in and turn it to unlock.... only worry now is what if i have my hoodpins on and i forget and pop my hood, will it fuck my hood up? also i dont think i could line up the hoples very good in my hood to the pins, with my luck ill be off by 1/2 inch

Use a dremel instead of a drill with colbolt covered bits

use gum to line it up when you drill. put the posts where you want them, then chew some gum into a nice ball and stick it lightly to the top of the posts.... close the hood onto the gum, open it back up, and mark where on the hood the gum stuck. then drill there.

You don't need hood pins. Also, if you do put them on leave the factory latch there.

btw. hoodpins arent rice. they have been used for decades before rice even started. just food for thought. :twothumbs

Instead of gum I have just put paint on the tips of the pins and set thte hood down on them and well you have a perfect mark of where to drill.

Disabling the latch could be a bad thing. Remember the Cobalt is a vandalism magnet. Hood pins alone makes easy access to your engine bay. Try and get an easier latch?

he has non functional hoodpins to see if he likes them. he is going to get functional hoodpins in the near future. and i wasnt just saying that cuz of him, my father had an older muscle car that had them, he used to race.

they make hoodpins now that you have to have a key to unlock them. They use a key similar to those of pop machines and such. At least the ones a guy that i know does.

USE A UNIBIT TO DRILL THE HOLES.

ITS BASICLY A STEPPED DRILLBIT. AND IT MAKES MUCH CLEANER HOLES.
