New shift knob

As soon as I got this car I knew the first thing I was going to change was the Saturnish looking shift knob.

I pulled it apart to see what my options were. I measured the shaft and it's 12mm. M12x1.75 is a popular shift knob thread size, so it worked out perfect to thread the stock shaft that size. I put a bag down to catch the fillings. I cut the stock knob because I could not figure out anything to do with the boot that didn't look like crap. just tightened the knob down against the lower half of the old knob and put a dab of blue Loctitie just to make sure it didn't move

anyways, here's some pics.

I got it from Jeg's. It's their house brand knob, so it was $8 less than the Hurst knob I was originally going to buy. I have the Hurst brand in my Corvette, and the font is slightly different. This one cost $30 shipped. You can get them in black also, but I prefer the muscle car white.

Wish you could do this to the SS/SC/TC models!

Great job

Looks great! Is it a composite knob? Always wondered how different the shifting was with one versus a weighted knob.

Thanks guys, yeah it's composite. Not really sure exactly what it is made of. It feels good in your hand though.
