NYS State Law on Tints?
NYS State Law on Tints?
Alright ive been looking around on here and on the internet and ive come to the conclusion that the law in New York State is 70% front side and rear side, and any% on the rear windshield if you have side mirrors. Today my friends dad said the rear sides can be any%. The reason im asking is because yesterday i got pulled over and when i told the cop i didnt know why he had pulled me over, he said because my tints were illegal, and any tint that doesnt come on a car from the factory is illegal. Now i know that isnt true but he said he would have given me a ticket but didnt because i am a student, and if i had gotten his name or anything i would have made a formal complaint because he sat there screaming at me when i asked him if he was sure they were illegal. All im looking for is a link to the actual NYS law on window tints (preferabbly a link with a .gov in the web adress) that way if i ever get pulled over again for tints ill have him write out the ticket, and then show him the law and prove him wrong and get him in trouble and w.e
Cliff notes: ive searched on here and the net and i need a link to the New York State law on window tints. preferably a link with .gov in the web adress (i already know its 70% on the side and any% on the rear)

From what I remember, yes. From what I've been told, not only do you have to follow the laws of the state that the car is registered in but also the state that the car is in. Example: If your car is registered in FL and you are driving through VA, does that mean that you do not have to follow the no radar detector law? I can't count how many times I've been pulled over in NY for NY laws, even though my car is registered in FL.
im not sure, im wondering this myself as i am taking a road trip down to north carolina at the end of June. i believe you do though, because i remember when i was 16 i had my ny but i wasnt allowed to drive to NJ because you hve to be 17 to get your license there.
next time tell him to put the meter on your car and he can see that you are within the limits. but you know i get pulled over for my windows and am very illegal. i have 15%. cops tell me its just an excuse to pull us over and check your licience. Or in my case to bullshit with me about the car and what they have at home. and if my car is fast.
well in NY they cracked down on tints because a while back two cops pulled over a blacked out car and as they approached the car, both got shot and I think atleast one got killed, maybe both, and ever since then, they dont give a damn and the slightest tint they'll ticket you
It's true, ANY aftermarket tint is illegal. The limit is 70% VLT, which is what comes on stock cars. Roll your window down half way and look, it comes tinted. The rear window can be spraypainted if you want, as long as you have 2 side mirrors (at least on some cars/trucks/vans) This topic has been covered a million times, try a search.
The only thing the cop did wrong was scream at you. He cut you some slack and didn't give you a ticket, I would just relax and take the warning.

yup it's illegal. because of the fact the cop cannot see you and doesn't know if you got a gun hence why they walk up to tinted cars holding their gun
