Paint/Chrome Removal

I just soaked my Mini Gatling Shroud from the M1 Mini Morimoto Projector Kit in 12.5% SH (pool chlorine) and it stripped the chrome perfectly. I jumped the gun on painting the headlight housing and ended up getting picky about the paint job (thinking I could scuff and correct the old paint job over a non-scuffed chrome surface from the previous headlight builder )
It still looks awful.

Could I dip the whole housing in 12.5% SH like the projector shrouds or would that be a bad idea with it being painted already? I deal with SH/Pool Chlorine a lot as it is the main chemical used in my roof cleaning business so I have a boatload of it in my garage.

I've seen my dad use citrus orange stripper but only on wood objects that you can really put your weight into when scrubbing it off. Could that be a route to take?

Thanks,
Stephen

I am honestly not sure since your housings are already painted... but if you decide to buy some new housings outdoor strength bleach will strip the chrome easily.

I have a How-To thread that shows my results if you're interested. Go to General->How to guide and in "Search this Forum" type fxr, you'll see a post by me

Yeah, outdoor strength bleach is just 6.25% SH when pool chlorine is 12.5%. The 12.5% worked perfectly, I was actually surprised how quickly it worked so I know where to begin. Just don't want to stick the painted housings in and mess up the paint to the point I have to do 10x more work or if I cause a dangerous mixture that would melt the housing or something funky like that.

I checked it out before, that's where I got the bleach/chlorine idea from. Thanks for that by the way.

No prob, sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

There is something called Klean-Strip Aircraft Paint Remover for Flexible Plastic Aerosol, that stuff is SUPER strong but I have never used that particular one... so I don't know how it will react with your headlight housings.

Edit: are you trying to fix a particular area on the housing or the whole housing?

If I were you I would try placing your housings in the chlorine and if it messes up or doesn't come out the way you like it just buy some new housings.
I'm trying to do this so I can sell the current retrofits I'm rebuilding since the original builder did an awful job with the paint and building them correctly. Not trying to spend any more money or I'd take that route! I may end up using them though since I had them given to me but I was hoping to do a really nice and professional looking rebuild and get some decent money for them since I have so much stuff lying around and now these. Would be nice for someone else to swipe off me and put in their car since I just have an XFE with nothing done to it. Nothing personal to anyone else but I've found I'm not too fond of stock Cobalts with retros so I was hoping to find the right buyer who needs them. May just sand the hell out of the current paint job and then throw em in the chlorine and pray nothing bad happens. Worse case I can just sell the retrofits without the housings. lol
