painting noob please help

ok so i just got my car like a month ago. and a kid has already scracthed it. i tried to do touch up paint but i could never get it to match. like there would always be a slight bludge where the touch up paint is. is there a way to put the paint on and then like lightly sand it down so it lays flush. i sorta have ocd so if its no perfect i cant deal with it. advice is greatly appricated thanks.

paint it, then very carefully wet sand it

ilovecars 07-14-2008 01:10 PM

with what?

CinciSS07 07-14-2008 01:12 PM

dont wet sand your car if you dont know how to do it. you can really fuck up your car if you do it wrong. chances are you'll just make it worse.

ilovecars 07-14-2008 01:15 PM

well i need help then how do i do it? or what should i do to fix my scratches?

SilvrLT 07-14-2008 01:22 PM

What kind of paint are you using?? and how are you applying it?? I can help you but if you have never buffed or sanded paint before I dont recomed it, also can you take some pics of the scratch as well

nitr0racing21 07-14-2008 01:26 PM

Get me pictures I may be able to help you.

ilovecars 07-14-2008 01:28 PM

lol if i get pics you cant laugh again i have slight ocd as small as it may be i always know its there. it sticks out to me like a sore thumb

ilovecars 07-15-2008 11:34 AM

ok i tired to get pics but it wouldent show up on the picks its a fait scratch maby a tad past clear coat.

SilvrLT 07-15-2008 12:31 PM

Did you try compounding it yet??

ilovecars 07-15-2008 03:57 PM

that is? lol again complete noob to paint

SilvrLT 07-15-2008 03:59 PM

hand rubbing it with compound or a good polish, I would suggest buffing it but if you have never buffed before you can burn the paint verry easily

ilovecars 07-15-2008 04:00 PM

what kind of compound should i get?

SilvrLT 07-15-2008 04:02 PM

I recomend 3m perfect-it 3000 rubbing compound you will need a swirl mark remover too to get rid of the hase from the compound

ilovecars 07-15-2008 04:06 PM

dam that seems expensive. is it that hard to wet sand it down?

SilvrLT 07-15-2008 04:09 PM

well its not that expensive, if you have never wetsanded I dont recomend it you can go through the clear. factory clear coats are applied verry thin but if that is the way you want to go I can help

ilovecars 07-15-2008 04:11 PM

see i dont know how deep the scratches are. i can describe it as this. my cars yellow the scratch is white. its definitly in there. i can feel it rubbing my hand over it and thats about all i know.

SilvrLT 07-15-2008 04:13 PM

if you lightly drag the tip of your fingernail over it dose it catch in the scratch??

ilovecars 07-15-2008 04:16 PM

yup!

PinaSS 07-15-2008 04:16 PM

ok well then it is deep enough that you will have to put some paint in it to fill it

yeah sort of right but the wax will not hide the sand scratches

ilovecars 07-15-2008 04:22 PM

yea thats what im saying. should i paint it and then try to lightly wetsand it down so its not a HUGE bump? cuz i couldent live with it like a bludge

SilvrLT 07-15-2008 04:25 PM

yes then you will need compound to remove the sand scratches

ilovecars 07-15-2008 04:26 PM

god dam. lol FUCK LITTLE KIDS!! they cost me money and time. ugh so i should apply the paint let it cure and shit then carefully wet sand then use compoud to get rid of the scratches and then wax to protect?
