Removing the SS spoiler
Removing the SS spoiler
Ok It may have been this forum or the one, but I was reading that by taking off the SS spoiler you can actually better your mpg in the city and increase your 1/4 times..I just want to know if it would increase my mpg since I mainly do city driving and almost no highway. How would having the coupe spoiler or no spoiler affect the performance on everyday driving?
Probably no effect. The relationship between speed and drag is NOT linear, so you do not see half the drag force at 40mph that you would see at 80mph. More like 1/4 the force. So if you're spending most of your time in the city at low speed, I highly doubt you'll see any difference whatsoever in performance or mileage. The spoiler is very lightweight too, so no mileage savings there...
It's not gonna make anything WORSE. But it's not going to make any difference you can see.

No, only real advantage to removing it, as arsenal21 said, is that you might actually be able to see out of your rear window. If you care about that. It's not gonna help you mileage wise if you're a city driver.

I'm playing with the notion of talking the wing so I can acheive the sleeper look. Plus, in my opinion, the wing is kinda cheap. There's too much movement when I wiggle it with my hand. It could be more solid and stable if you ask me.
When I took my wing off the SRT-4, I saw no improvement in city driving mileage, however I DID pick up about 2-3mpg on highway driving (speed limit is 65-75mph here, traffic runs about 75-80mph).
I also picked up ~1mph and ~.1 in the 1/4 mile.

Ok so I JUST took off the spoiler from my car like 2 weeks ago. I go through roughly a tank a week and the last two weeks i've seen roughly +2 mpg change in my driving habits. I thought I had just perfected driving but now that I read this I'm thinking that its probably my removal of the spoiler that has provided the benefit.
ss2fast...... It totally gives the sleeper look. Mine is 05 yellow and it pulls it off perfectly.

Had my SS/SC this past winter and it wasnt that bad. You can just brush it off and its not like its "that hard" to do really. Didnt even consider it an "issue" this winter really. What was worse was that salty/snowy/wet stuff dripping off the wing on to the car. Just like how water drips down if you forget to dry it after you wash it. But as far as snow removal, it really isnt an issue at all.
