Question SS 18" wheel weight?

Does anybody happen to know what the stock Cobalt SS 18" wheels weigh? I'm just wondering how much performance there is to be gained by going with some light-wieght 17's. I'm thinking Kosei K1 Racing or SSR Comps (expensive!) in a 17x7.5, and some good 225 rubber. I don't have an SS yet... just speculating. IMHO the 18" rims and the huge wing should be optional.

you seriously think your going to save a lot going to 17's over 18's?

Actually, yes... There is MUCH to be gained if you can SIGNIFICANTLY reduce the weight of the tire/wheel combination... good luck!

I would guess that the stock rims are 22-25 lbs. As a comparison the 17x7.5" Kosei's are 16.0 lbs and the 17x7.5" SSR's are 13.3 lbs. According to some physics, the reduced rotating mass resulting from switching from a 25lb 18" to a 13lb 17" would increase acceleration and braking performance as if roughly 200lbs were removed from the chassis. Reducing unsprung weight also results in better handling and better ride quality.

The only problem is I don't think either of the two aforementioned wheels come in the right bolt pattern.

how much heavier is the tire going to be though? I am sure you can find ligher wheels then the stock ones yes, but I think going down in rim size isn't going to save as much as staying the same size, because to keep the same overall tire diamater, you will have to run tires with taller sidewalls on the 17's, which is going to add more weight at the worst spot, the farthest out. I think you would see the biggest gain going with lightweight 18's.
